Okangestun, "Yorbound", a Large Serrated Aluminum Disc
This is a Large Serrated Aluminum Disc.  All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encrusted with Obsidian, studded with Iron, and encircled with bands of Aluminum.  On the item is an image of a shining sun in Aluminum.

is probably the best one in my current fortress.  Most valuable, and I can't wait to start hurling it in Adventure mode.

Būnemrersīr, "Soothed Flighty", an Iron Bucket
This is an Iron Bucket.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encircled with bands of Iron and Aluminum.  The handle is made from manta ray leather.

Not as valuable, but I'm using it as a well in my meeting hall/noble offices/noble dining rooms (though apparently I've got too many rooms mashed together to meet the nobles' requirements.

I wouldn't mind getting an artifact mechanism and artifact chain to go with them, though.  That way I could build the Flying Guillotine!

The dwarven economy is just a stand-in, from what I understand. As it is, it represents an actual economic system about as well as poison ivy represents a salad.

^^  try putting stockpiles of really valuable stuff near your workshops/forges. you can make stone artifacts out of ores, they will grab it if its closer then anything else.
This is exactly what I do as well.  I even have a map on dfma that you can look at as an example.  It's several game years out of date, but it still has the basics of the system in place:

Click on the Crafting POI.  One z-level down is expensive ores, and any moody stone-user will head straight for it.  The bins right in the middle have GCS silk cloth, thread, and chitin.  Any craftsdwarf, mason, mechanic, jeweler, carpenter, bowyer, or metalsmith (the forges are to the south) who goes into a mood will beeline straight for that.

Click on the Forges POI.  The four bins nearest the forges themselves have platinum and steel bars in them.  Any moody metalsmith will beeline straight for The Good Stuff.

I was the time it takes to smelt an ore away from getting an artifact made from platinum nuggets, platinum nuggets and platinum bars. Stupid magma forge wouldn't magma fast enough.

I usually create stockpiles in my mason shops for economic ores I eventually intend on crafting into furnitue (platinum & aluminum nuggets are a good example). This does have the sideffect that my resulting stone artifacts usually have something good in them.

Except for that damn cobalite on cobalite, with a dash of cobalite ring or whatever...3,600 dwarfbucks WITH a x120 multiplier...*sigh*

I have an artifact toy block that's really only notable for having the same name as its creator (Dumat Sodelritas.)

Also, this artifact sword I got earlier is kind of badass:
"Coilglowing the Ashamed Kindness", a Mountain goat bone short sword
It is decorated with mountain goat bone, dog bone and turtle shell. It menaces with spikes of human bone (!) and Obsidian. On the item is an image of Dumat Shieldowls the Birchen toy block in Obsidian.

... Well, badass except for the picture of a toy block on it, anyway.

He'll break it. You need something made from the following...

1: The beards of women (easy enough)
2: The roots of mountains (adamantine may qualify here.)
3: Footfalls of cats
4: Fish breath
5: Bird spittle
6: Bear sinews

You may have to mod how animals get butchered to include those last four.

"This is a stack of Fish Breath [5]"

Nah, you just need to tie the chain to a few aquariums and cages.  Better pack them full of animals, too, so you'll have a good chance of having all of the required items.

ok Unos, "The Finger of Wails", a giant desert scorpion chitin leggings.

This is a giant desert scorpion chitin leggings.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encircled with bands of Oak.  This object is adorned with hanging rings of giant desert scorpion chitin and menaces with spikes of giant desert scorpion chitin.  On the item is an image of two giants in giant desert scorpion chitin.  On the item is an image of a wild wtrawberry in Tanzanite.
On the item is an image of Pogast Defecttainted the Evil of Flickering the demon in Rope reed.  Pogast Defecttainted the Evil of Flickering is striking a manacing pose.  The artwork relates to the release of the demon Pogast Defecttainted the Evil of Flickering by careless miners in the deepest recesses of Ironstakes in the late winter of 206.
On the item is an image of spirits of fire in Gold.
On the item is an image of The Finger of Wails the giant desert scorpion chitin leggings in Platinum.

...

So, a reasonably useful item, featuring giant desert scorpion chitin, giant desert scorpion chitin, and giant desert scorpion chitin, recursive artwork, images of the doom that befell the previous inhabitants of the fortress, and various other monsters, and... a picture of a strawberry.

All for a mere 165600 dwarfbucks.

Engraved on the floor is a well-designed image of a kobold and a carp.  The kobold is making a plaintive gesture.  The carp is laughing.

Hey, do artifacts ever pop up elsewhere, or is your Dwarf Fortress the only source of them?
Like, if I go into adventure mode, am I going to find other civilization's artifacts?

Ah, thanks.
Now, if have an artifact stolen in Dwarf mode, will I ever be able to find it in Adventure mode?

Which actually reminds me, if I get a child stolen in Dwarf mode, will I see them (hostile or otherwise) in Adventure mode?

This is the most recent one I have fashioned.

Mingtuthlegon, The Contingent Wanderer a aluminum short sword.

This is an aluminum short sword. All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is studded with aluminum, this object is adorned with hanging rings of mithril, and menaces with spikes of silver. On the item is an image of dwarves in Rock Crystal. The dwarves are laboring. The artwork relates to the completion of the glacial bridge as part of The Ignited Road connecting Merchantclinch and Playedroads by the Lance of Counsellors of the Lean Oar in 116

Why could you have not made the sword itself out of mithril, you nitwit?!

Retail value: 230400 dwarf bucks.

Is it just me, or are some of the artifacts, especially the clothing ones, a bit really tacky?
