Yes, but it's still only one body per square. That doesn't really help. Especially because dead non-pets don't get to the graveyard, as far as I know.

Good thing I've already turned their hides into mittens, their meat into exported meals, and their bones into bolts.  Let's see them rise now.

Cursed items are worse than the undead

Oh gods, the mitten taking control of the wearers hands and ripping off parts of the wearers body.

This would be good as a 'Trap'. You bury a load of dwarves in the shallow soil and then when the elves come, they spring back to life!

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

Oh, is that the problem.
just designate a dumpsite a level above the graveyard. ;)

Not sure whether they will count as being in the graveyard after being un-forbidden. Maybe another dwarf will come by and move the corpse to an unoccupied tile in the GY.

It's not a problem yet, but it will be a problem if every corpse that doesn't get a burial turns into a zombie. I'm especially talking about all the cats and kittens.

I really love the idea of a crematorium to defend against a necromancer arriving at your fort. That is just so awesome I can't stand it.

Then you either get dwarven ash zombies that are nearly invincible since blades would go right through them, or flaming/magma semi-elementals.

Lock your dead in a hole far far away from home, and use the best of dwarven engineering to make sure there is no way for them to get out. Might make an interesting megaproject, even in this version.

Imagine every cat, EVERY cat, you killed for science, as baits or as meat and bone provider rising from the dead and attacking your fortress. I doubt that the military dwarves could do anything against this threat.

Good thing I've already turned their hides into mittens, their meat into exported meals, and their bones into bolts.  Let's see them rise now.

Imagine thousands of spectral kittens haunting your fortress.

Urist McZombie has been ecstatic lately. He is unhappy about rising from a dirt grave recently. He has devoured a friend recently. He dined in a legendary dining room recently. He needs brains to get through the working day.

And at last, we reach the perfect logical conclusion.

Zombie Fortress!

Hmm, a burial tomb that is completely encased in lava or water until someone has to be buried.

Or you know, just have a two Z level chamber with a lever that floods the first level with lava, then another lever that floods the second level, encasing the first in rock and pewpewing the Zombies at the same time.

Surely that would melt the tomb?

Zombie Fortress!

That could be pretty interesting with relationships, when Urist McZombie has a profile line like "He is pleased to have devoured an annoying aquaintance recently."

Scratch interesting, it'd be pretty awsome, especially when your mayor causes a war by devouring a pesky diplomat who wants you to stop cutting down trees on a glacier.
