Neruz: ah... so its basically not a published game. Likewise i could challenge you to find a copy of the Pair O' Dice pen and paper RPG. Written by me and only ever played by 6 people, I did email a copy to a guy I knew from a BBS in the early 90's. So you might actually have a chance. But even I don't have a copy anymore.

Hey, at least mine was actually done by a real dev who makes games for a living and it would have been released if he'd finished it two weeks earlier :P

It's the combat mini-game of In Search of Doctor Livingston.

Or Spectrum.
Correct.

It's the combat mini-game of In Search of Doctor Livingston.
Incorrect.

Release year was 1985, if that's any help.

Nah, can't find it. If it's really 1985, Spectrum, and Adventure/RPG (like it seems), then it's probably one of the several World of Spectrum considers MIA. Though I guess you'd have to have the game to screencap it, so either I got the genre wrong, or you could contribute to WoS. :)

I'd love to find a full version, or anything of Duke Nukem 1.

You can get it here: http://www.abandonware.cc/download.php?view.29

Last clue: publisher was Games Workshop.

There are only three games that match all that. Talisman, Journey's End, and Chaos. Chaos is something I very much liked to play, Talisman and Journey's end don't look like what you've got there, at least not by the screens they have up there.

It is in fact Journey's End:

The game has three distinct sections - dungeon crawl, wilderness survival and platform/puzzler (once you reach the tower) - so there are quite a variety of screenshots. The one I chose is a random wilderness encounter. It's available on world of spectrum:

I was also a fan of Chaos -  my other idea was to post a screenshot filled with gooey blob. :-)

That Journey's End screenshot reminds me of some game.  A bunch of wizards were fighting over something.  The graphics were roughly that, except color.  Summoning more units was important, and you could make them illusions vulnerable to disbelief, summon one for real, or summon like three of them for greatly decreased success chance.  I believe it was a remake of something, but I don't remember what, and I can't remember the name.  :\

Anyway, I don't really know.  I can't recall anything that's really obscure... maybe some Felix the Cat game on NES?

I want to say either Final Fantasy:  Mystic Quest or River City Ransom, but those aren't really obscure at all.  I've played the Kunio-kun game that was on the SNES, though.  Punchin' out dudes and then ninjas and then Yakuza.

The game you thought of was Chaos. Specifically, "Chaos: The Battle of the Wizards". It was sort of like Magic The Gathering, but on a 15x15 (I think) grid.
