is there a way to change the code/raws/data/init or anything to make things hostile...because i really want to defend against an entire goblin fortress. i dont care even if the traders are hostile too

Dwarf companion can make thinks hostile, but sadly I don't know anything about mkae-ing things hostile.

And I don't think you can set a civilization to be at war with you with it.

I've heard that if you take out the [CAN_SPEAK] (or whatever it was) tag, it makes it so their wars never end, so it's much more likely that they'll  be at war with you.

but is it a bug where civs on map are always friendly, or does it depend on how much at war they are with them?

1. During worldgen, wars will occaisionally be waged. If worldgen ends while a war involving your civilization and another is still going on, that civ will siege you during the game.

2. Goblins usually attack you anyway, though not always, as your current situation seems to be.

3. I've heard that if you keep seizing the traders' goods, you can piss them off to the point where they start to attack you.

Try doing what I mentioned in the third one.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

no....in the cases ive heard. the goblins on map are friendly, but goblins will still seige you and the goblins on map will fight them. have you gotten a goblin fortress to attack you?

how about a version where goblins WILL attack you?

You're really not supposed to be embarking on top of them anyway.
Hostility checks for civilizations you embark upon haven't been implemented.
(Next version, probably)
Replace [INTELLIGENT] in their creature with [CAN_CIV] and [CAN_LEARN]
They'll constantly be at war with everybody, and you'll get your wish.
(People need to learn how to use the Search button..  I swear I'm answering the same question at least 3 times a day..  course, it's a different question every day, but still)
