Delicious Wizard Meat
« on: October 23, 2008, 05:04:41 am »

I've noticed you can create wizard meat stockpiles. I've also seen wizards mentioned before... so I need to know. How do you get Wizard meat!?

Erm kill wizards and butcher the corpses?  :P
Even tho, it's impossible to do now, considering that wizards won't attack your fortress. [..at least I haven't seen any in fortress mode]

Heh, I was just working off the assumption wizards were just the generic name for the testing creature,(I just found it amusing you could stockpile their meat) hence why I've only heard of it appearing in bugged stuff... Did they actually use to attack your fortress?

IIRC, wizards were an experiment that eventually was abandoned.

Like I've said, I haven't seen any if fortress mode ever, and I am playing with the game since early 2006.  :)

"Make DF higher fantasy."  I doubt we'll see wizards soon, but suspect we may see (after a fashion) the return of magic soonish, as one of the current dev. thingies involves replacing zombies and skeletons with broader sphere-related statuses.

Wizards exist in the raws, actually. they just don't appear in game. they appear in the raws so as to be potential engraving subjects.

EDIT: looks like them appearing in raws was removed.

Only in Dwarf Fortress would you try to catch a mermaid to butcher her and make trophies out of her bones

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about also. Let's just call them necromancers... ;)

Wizards are fanciful creatures, which means do don't actually exist but may appear in engravings. Since they have a creature entry in the raws, it's possible to set up stockpiles for their meat.

They still do, under Creature_Fanciful. Along with a few other non-appearing creatures.

Edit: Scratch that, apparently not. D'oh. Sure I saw them in there before...

Edit 2: The re-edit: That is because they are in Creature_Standard.

Eat your wizzard meat little dwarf!  It'll make you grow up big and strong!  Or possibly make you explode.  That's magic for you.

I find that wizard meat is best when it is sautéed and served with a light and creamy plump helmet sauce. That's good eatin'.
