Stalactites and hanging objects?
« on: October 21, 2008, 11:31:55 pm »

So I've noticed that in the process of digging out my underworld, my dwarves have been leaving sections of long stalactites hanging from the ceiling. This... makes me rethink exactly how cave ins work.

Is something supported if its attached by anywhere to anywhere?
Does this work for constructions?

If so, this is going to have some interesting connotations... maybe instead of building a city on the bottom of my underworld, I'll build it hanging from the ceiling...

Right now, cave-ins don't work. This is what allows doomsday devices such as the Earthquake Machine and Falling Sky to work so easily.

Well, they do work - just extremely naively.  Basically, everything has an infinite material strength, so as long as you have a path to ground you're fine.

Well, they work to a certain extent- I've lost dwarven lives to them! I was just under the impression things just needed something below them or beside them to support them.

I just didn't realize above them worked too...

Now I must build a beehive! mwahaha.
