I'm on.  Just bumped into Lythios.  The git's still annoying.

I've also got some more raw pork for sausage-making, and some extra leather and thread.

Yeah, I'm in TB.  Also, I'm cured.  Somebody who apparently knows me (failed introduction on his part.  Can't se who he is) heard me sniffling and called me over to sit by the fire.  The warmth banished the cold.

Apparently, you get it after spending too much time in the "cold mines".  Bah.

EDIT:  I just found out that I can "repair" my metal items.  Apparently, the saying of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't apply.

Repairing boosts the "new" quality of the item, while reducing its "real" quality, until it finally just crumbles into uselessness.

If this provides smithing skill, I can clear out most of my junk stores while earning extra smithing skill!  I'll save the ones that turn out alright (I've got a stock of pretty good steel hats right now), but most of 'em I'll work until they're simply bashed into nonexistence.  I'll run a test tomorrow to see if it actually provides a learning experience...  At least I'll have a way of clearing out the "bads" from my "goods", while looking important.  I can't stand just leaving a shield out to rot.

Alright, I'm completely lost.  I have no idea how to tell the difference between NPCs and PCs, and I don't know how to see the descriptions of PCs.  I'm trying to forage for seeds, but I have no idea how to tell whether I'm actually looking in the right places or not.  The wiki is unclear and lacks pictures.

All I've managed to do is kill a pig and cook the meat, and even that took me a while to figure out.  I think DF is more newbie friendly than this game!  I don't even see any other people online to ask for help.  At least, I don't think I see anyone.  I suppose I don't really know how to tell if other players are around.

Someone please help?

First of all, Press F12, you'll get Names above Players, but not above NPCs.

Alrighty, that helped a bit.  I just posted a topic in the Newbie forum of the game asking for help with herb lore and farming in both languages, so I'm going to hope I get a response soon.

Till then, I'm gonna go work on my pyramid a bit.

Anyone else playing right now?  I want to become a farmer / cook so I'll need some more tools which apparently you can't buy except from other players.

Do you have a sickle by chance?

Apparently starting as a farmer doesn't give you a sickle, even though you need one to harvest your plants.  So I'm screwed until I find one.  :(

I'm in EST, east coast US.  GMT-5.

This game really seems needlessly complicated and difficult.  Why would the game start me with seeds I can plant, but can't harvest until I get another tool?

Aww...I tried to play the game, but whenever I click "Download/install" or "Play Game", a "Java starting" box opens up, then suddenly it says "Unable to launch the application".
I even already made my character and stuff, and I tried getting an upgraded version of Java...  :(

What browser are you running?  Is your computer old?  Are you on a Mac?

Strange that it won't work.

By the way, I got a sickle and I'm going herblore crazy!  I'm gonna have so much fruit we aren't gonna know what to do with it all.

I also just had a ten minute conversation with someone in German, and I don't appear to have made any glaring errors.  Hooray!

The same thing happened when I tried to download Wurm. Weird...
