[40b] Encrusting large gems with gems

This may be a feature, but I don't really think it's a feature to take a gem and put a few bands of other gems around it. Maybe putting platinum rings or bone spikes, yes. Or it could be a dwarven thing to put gems on gems. I'd consider it a bug.

In a world of bone-encrusted totems and platnum spikes on platnum beds, Dwarves feel a little consistancy when putting gems on gems.

Dwarves know nothing of the word gaudy.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Until I get to more information about jewelry, you can take it be a giant gem with a bit of metal in which there are set the other gems in a sort of giant bizarre piece of unwearable jewelry.  It would be strange I think if they were boring holes in a gem to add other gems...  not sure if anybody ever does that.

It would technically be possible to bore a hole in a gem and add a rod of a different type of gem.  I think it would mostly require tools and precision only available in the modern era, but I remember a Lapidary Journal issue several years back about someone who engraved on the inside of a germ.  They were very pretty.

Unfortunately shortly after the engraver washed his hands with antibacterial soap killing the engraved germ.  It was never able to be put on display to show his greatness.

The Samarian spinel once had an inset diamond, so it's plausible.
