Ondulating framerates [solved]
« on: October 19, 2008, 08:06:24 am »

I just started a new game (medium world, dwarf fortress 4x4); and now that 14 dwarfen days have passed I already experienced about 8 to 9 "switchings" between a FPS of 100 (max) and a FPS of 7 (It's not the "paused", btw) . I cannot see the reason for that. I DID change some init settings, as shown below. Before, I had other fortresses in the same version, with standard init settings, and it was quite normal. Some things that might be important:
  • Haunted surroundings
  • Pop_cap at 10
  • "Other features" in the area
  • Underground river in the area
  • 37 z-levels in total
  • running through wine
  • G_FPS cap at 20

I find that most of my workers/masons do work at the same time, and that my FPS drops every time a large group of them finishes at the same time. Basically, pathfinding.

At least, that's for me. Mayhaps you have a different problem.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Err, stupid me. Pass me the "Noob"- Hat. It was something completely different, my printer trying to print something very strange, now that he was connected for the first time in month. Just needed some paper and someone to yell at.

someone to yell at.
I hope your expedition leader's unhappiness was balanced out by your dining room.

He likely has wooden furniture in wooden constructions. I don't have high hopes for this.

Indeed. I would suggest sticking an artifact or masterwork/exceptional in his dining room before he eats or your fortress may tantrum spiral
