The foot thing is the only way it can be solved reasonably.  A longer-leg thing would be too easy to exploit.  Just buy a fast leg and shorten it.

It wouldn't be an exploit if they made it cost more like Tahin suggested.  This is just an unfortunate example of dumbing down... :-\

Buying a longer leg and then shortening it would make it a shorter leg.  AKA not as fast. :/

The stats should be determined not solely by the parts, but also how the creature moves... Like how balanced it is, etc.  It can't be difficult to do programming-wise, because they make the creatures move in the first place.  I'm almost positive the reason they don't do it that way is because people are USED to that style of play(and the lack of thinking)...  It's too...  Simple.

That's how they promised us it would work, with full demonstrations. :(

If you want a game that complex you're going to have to wait.

I'm sure they only changed it because it created too much processor strain.

That might be conceivable with a different publisher, but this is EA we're talking about here.

John Riccitiello:  Ah hello, Laurence.  Have you spoken with William on the progress of his new intellectual tool?

Larry Probst:  It's bad news, Jonathan.  The scope and power of this fascinating simulation is too great.  It will never function on the computers of the children!

John:  No!  We must bring knowledge to the masses.  As EA, it is our one goal to provide quality educational material to those who might never learn otherwise!

Larry:  I shall have Master William lower the program's specifications.  We shall bring the children knowledge, no matter the cost!

Yeah... I bet that's why they did it.

'Cept the original concept of Spore was to use procedural scripts to make it possible, and it was demonstrated working in those videos.

I was going to write a lengthy post about my idea of a sandbox evolution game, but it turned out to be a bit convoluted and I lost the train of though. Heh. I'll just post my two latest additions to the zoo then.

Dunno if I uploaded this one or not...  I've updated him anyway.

Stay away from his mouth if you want to live. :)

An improvement on the "anthropomorphic feline" character concept:

My most likeable creation so far.

Then this version of the above "felidae erectis" will definetly not make it online.

There's nothing excessive, mind you. Just a hint that it's there. (more of a downright obvious clue, but whatever)

At least I can use it myself. :)

By the way, to those people who have the full version - is it possible to construct a feline face without resorting to such "architecture"?
