Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't creatures (including pikes) have to kill a fair amount of dwarves to get a name?

It'd be cool if unicorn refuse gives off rainbow miasma.
It should totally bleed the laughter of children, too.

Military dorfs are the busiest if their partner is also in the military, Military children are my forts future, also its hilariously tragic when a mother carrying her child into battle gets hit, and the baby dies....
I fixed that up for you.

Except that gills don't show up on his wounds list. He obviously doesn't have any.

Besides, the name's not highlighted in blue. That means it's not in water, which is why it's drowning.

Gills don't exist in DF.  Fish have throats and lungs.

HAD throats. They're gone now.

Dunno about lungs.

Wouldn't it be a Swim Bladder?

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

If he's under a waterfall then they can drown, i think.

No, that's to maintain a proper buoyancy in the water so the fish doesn't float to the surface or sink to the bottom.

Though in evolutionary history, swim bladders have been used as a primitive set of lungs, but this first occurred when fish came onto land.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

He's drowning because he's not in water at all.
Fish, with their underwater-adapted organs, die the same way OUT of water as we, with our aboveground-adapted organs, do IN water.
That is to say, drowned.  It's the same term.
