Not again...
« on: December 13, 2002, 07:17:00 am »

I was playing the 1983 version of Oubliette and was inspired to put together another game over a four day period:

LIBERAL CRIME SQUAD

This game is really fun!  Unfortunately, I dont know what I'm doing and the people seem to get angered by my attacks...

Put up an instruction manual!

I put myself on a clock...  so I didn't have time to write a manual.  He he he.  I'll stick something up later on today maybe.  I didn't have time to make people get scared, so they get angry when you walk into the place where they work and start killing them.  This is true even if conservatives are alarmed and attacking you.  You don't belong at these sits.  If you are able to get like a security uniform and wear that instead of a trench coat, then you can go around disguised...  the point of the game is to sway public opinion to your cause, and use that to change the laws through elections.  Eventually you make a newspaper to do that, but until then you have to go do things at the sites.  Each site has one or two special squares that will help you.  Every criminal thing you do at a site is rewarded by public opinion, unless you get an "alienation" message.  Then you did something unpopular, and the all of the crimes will count against public opinion instead.  In addition, crimes will always count against you while your organization is still unpopular.  You have to accept that your first few missions are going to hurt your cause, until you get enough money to start doing more sophisticated things.

Important things:

Pressing W in the main screen waits a month.  Passing time is the only way to get elections to happen.  I need to make the game pass time on its own too.  I'll put up a patched version with the manual.  It won't affect saved games.

Going to 'V' Advanced Liberal Services, you can get a 'P'ollster to check public opinion, and you can also check your status toward winning the game 'L'.

And lots of other stuff.  I'll put up instructions.

Renaxer, did you hack the site or something?  :)  A Bay Watcher already...  I hope the forum isn't busted.  I can understand why people haven't been here...  the first three games blew more or less.

[Oh wait, I didn't see the Nonsense Forum.  He he he...]

I made some changes.  Any old save files should work fine.

Instruction manual included.

I don't know how many versions I've put up, but I think I'm done now, so I'll get back to Armok.  The latest LCS can be found at the link above.

With that version, my high score is winning
in November 2051.

I know you said your done with crimesquad but I kinda got one favour/question for ya...
Could ya put in a loyalty meter or something for your people... or ish this built in? Im not sure how it works... when your people switch from your side to the enemies and all... If its not too much work Id like to know if you could add it. If not thats alright its still a great game. 8D

Wisdom is your loyalty meter.  High wisdom is bad.

If you argue with scientists and judges, you also use your int and heart (high is good).  If you argue with CEOs, it's just heart.  News anchors and radio personalities go against heart and charisma.

Yeah but it still seems like my guys switch over with low wisdom...
Its like "Oh, snap stocks! Forget this Liberal crap!"
and they have like 1 wisdom...
Ish there a way to keep getting their wisdom down after you drafted them...
I usually drug em....
<.<
>.>
I think I had one of their wisdom down to 0... not sure... he had bad stats...
but still theres always a chance to get converted right?
It just gets annoying because you work up that persons stats and buy em stuff... then you have to kill em... 8(
Sorry if I never make any sense... I just throw in words... you make sense of em..
They might be right or wrong?
Or Spinduzzlealipinamount...

There's always a chance of being converted.  But if you have lots of intelligence and heart, you have a much better chance of making it.  Wisdom isn't the sole factor.  But if a CEO explains derivatives to you, and you have no heart, then even low wisdom won't save you.

You can't torture liberals once they are indoctrinated...  you should probably be able to force them to go to Government schools or secret Liberal universities, but there's only so much I could do...  if people like, I can revisit this game later on and release another version.

Of course, with the future monstrosities that will be written during my vacation (where my brother and I will be pooling resources to assassinate good taste), this game might pass into oblivion.  You know, like Asteroids Bowel Raider.  Best game ever.
