Damn, I actually laughed our loud at that.

Anyway, I don't condone the addition of crap like this unless you can make leather goods out of it. Ever since I embarked on a tropical moist broadleaf forest right next to a tropical ocean, there just hasn't been enough leather variety. Once you have «+Whale Shark Leather Armor+» with an image of something making a plaintive gesture in siamang leather on it, you can't go back to horse leather.

While it sucks for Reki that everyone came down on him like a ton of bricks, this thread is still made of win.

Somewhat more on topic, I've found no way to get humanoid pets (am I deranged for making Battletoads and fireball-slinging Plumbers, complete with graphic tiles?) to put on clothes.  The only ones wearing anything were already wearing it when they arrived.  Personally, I remove the [EQUIPS] tag from such pets anymore to reduce the abundance of strangely sized (large, narrow, etc) crap and to help prevent war pets from wrestling.  If I make a ninja pet with an inherent sword attack, it'd better damned well use it instead of grabbing third toe, left foot.

EDIT:  Holy typo, Batman!

A bit too harsh a ribbing, I'll admit.  Hey Reki, we're just messing with you.  Glad to have you in the club.  And if you're going to have fox-girls wandering around your fortress, why not leave them naked anyway?

I've planned to experiment with this problem myself.  The only thing I know so far is that civilized creatures can be set up as pack-pets, and foreign merchants will use them.  The bad part is (from a technical standpoint) that since this is part of the pack-creature's inventory, it gets dumped into the trade depot, but since it is not flagged as belonging to the merchants, it becomes yours and is freely tradeable.  In fact, if you don't trade the stuff, it's just left in the depot.

I wanted to make a modded fortress-able race that uses intelligent creatures as pets (in a Warhammery Ork/Gretchin relationship), but it didn't occur to me that being smaller than the species I'd be controlling, I wouldn't be able to make clothes for them.  That's certainly a problem.

I'm pretty sure it isn't.  Yet.

You can have a creature who has both pet tokens and entries in the entity_default.txt. It's very possible to have functioning civs AND slaves.
Goblin Fortress is proof of this. The humans/elves/dwarves/kobold manslaves didn't have to be chopped from the civ tables in order to be brought along as half-naked entertainment for the mining throng of gobby girls.

So yes. You can have both.

Yeah, it will be a little disgusting when one runs over a rips a mouse to pieces with its teeth, but then they could 'seduce' dwarves into choosing them as pets. ;)
