Irony of Captives
« on: October 16, 2008, 01:47:11 pm »

So I slaughtered most of a goblin dark fortress trying to find their demon, and my adventurer was shot and killed from the dark...by an elite elven bowmaster.

No big deal, I come back, gouge it's eyes out with a wrestler and as it cries blood, a Human pikeman guard comes up and pierces me through the heart.

I come back again, elf is fully healed, so I avoid him, and I put three arrows into the heart of the human guard.  He is bleeding heavily and has red wounds through most of his internal organs.  A goblin lasher comes up behind me, I put three arrows into him, he drops his shield and then proceeds to get his whip stuck in my shoulder, and twists it.  I'm not sure how that works, but I die again.

I come back and the goblins must have an open-heart surgeon because I opened that guard's heart with arrows and he's find now.  If only I could get him to realize gobbos are evil.

As he sees things, you're the one who's attacking his home without provocation, and the goblins are the ones who patched him up after you shot him.

Shooting people and gouging out eyes... No wonder they killed you. Shame on you.

Would have topped it right off if it was a dwarf axeman who downed you the last time.  :P

...Wouldn't wounds like that carry over?

Wounds like that should carry over, but since I didn't remove any limbs, I guess they don't.

Their legends screen looks like this:

Elf_traitor was captured by The Steel Witches
....
Elf_traitor became a member of The Steel Witches
....

Elf_traitor killed (every one of my adventurers)

If you waited long enough on the death screen, he would have died. Remember, time still passes when you are dead.

It still doesn't explain how he still didn't die with a mortal wound like that.

Guess people need to remember that the period button also makes time go by, come time when their character dies.

He could have been hardcore enough to survive the bleeding until seasons changed twice, in theory.

Only in Dwarf Fortress would you try to catch a mermaid to butcher her and make trophies out of her bones

If there's no announcements onscreen (it displays DONE at the end of them) time passes, and they have the potential to bleed out.
Time pauses if there's an announcement, though.
Should have waited and let him bleed out after you got the mortal wound on him.

I once had a dwarf adventurer that took several arrows to the heart, and survived... but usually that kills you nearly instantly.
