Bravo.  I knew water would do that, but I didn't know that pumps would do the same for lava.

I've done the experiment before, and wiki-fied the results, but video does have a certain impact.

Lesson to note for would be mythbusters: "Pics or it didn't happen!"

Just for rigor's sake - there could hypothetically have been some bug in the latest version that made engravings ineffective.

Engraved walls myths- supplemental.

It seems (although no pictures) it does not matter whether a wall is engraved from one side or the other.
However, if two [priced] rooms share that same wall, the value of both should drop as they now overlap.

I just realized: in order to see the price, you need a fort wit economy. Haven't gotten there yet on this build.

submyth: Are walls really part of the room area [base value] or external modifiers to the value?
If they are part of the area (as selection suggests) value of adjoining rooms with engraved wall should be lower than singular rooms.

Suggested test setup:
1) a singular bedroom with an engraved wall. [note value]
2) designate another bedroom using the same engraved wall from the opposite side. [note value of same room]

Walls Myth -siderailed:
"Constructed walls are of equal value as smoothed walls."

Suggested setup:
1 build a smoothed bedroom. (preferably in a single rocktype)
2 dig out walls
3 construct new walls of same material.

... Mine out a round room leaving a single column in the center... does smoothing and engraving that wall increase the value more than a single smoothed wall on the outer wall?

That would only answer the question whether all exposed sides of a tile are counted or just the single tile.
My gut feeling answers: "it is just one tile, stupid, so no!" also it tells me cold weather is better for movement, but that is irrelevant.

Here's a myth - I've seen this one before, but I'm calling it a myth because I haven't been able to reproduce it and I don't know what causes it.

Myth:
High skilled masons, when constructing walls, have the ability to construct engraved walls, with the value of natural engraved walls.

This one is nearly impossiblle to debunk (baring ToadyOne giving a statement).
You can't disprove a statement like "it happens sometimes" by experimentation. A experiment can show that it is [very[very-very[-...]]] unlikely, but not that it "never happens".

Still it sound like BS, so i think it is safe to assume as such, unless someone proves that it indeed does work :p

I have only ever seen engraved, constructed walls when building over previously engraved floors.  Perhaps this is where the 'engraved constructions' myth spawns from?
