But is dropping 5 levels into water safer than dropping 5 levels onto solid ground?

I had a castle for my adventurer that had a high dive board 4 z levels up and a 3 deep pool of water. He never got hurt jumping off it.

If you drain the magma in a magma pipe down below its normal level and build a bauxite drawbridge there, then pump magma back in until it is above your drawbridge, then you lift the bridge, does it send magma flying everywhere?

I just tested it with water. Alas. No water cannon.
So it will be highly improbable for it to work with magma, since this is a fluid as well.

Too bad.
The implications would have been.... RAINING FIERY DEATH UPON ALL WHO DARE COME NEAR MY WALLS WITH MAGMA FLOWING ON TOP.

<sigh>

Can't have it all.

Okay, I'm gonna check the wall myth -

From what I've seen so far, I'm guessing you get an engraved wall whenever the construction effort is considered "masterwork". My last fort had about four or five of these, now I'll try and set it up in a more controlled fashion and make a video.

4 masons, and 3 mason/architects depart, intent on building the impossible...

I've heard of a booze bomb, and people saying that it's false, and I've never seen it before. Does the booze actually create an explosion, or is it just red steam?

Yeah it explodes and sets fire to stuff! Thats how i got my own forest fires.

I'd like to know, too. I've tried placing alcohol stockpiles in my magma-deathtrap entrance to add a little extra zaz, but they're always empty when the goblins arrive :(

Just set up a food stockpile of 2 tiles that accepts only drink (they always seem to put an empty barrel on a food stockpile first.) As soon as your drink barrel is there, forbid it and delete your food stockpile. The barrel stays with the drink still inside :P

I just tried pumping magma over a barrel of booze, and didnt even get smoke- it just quietly blipped out of existence. Presumably it is possible to set it alight somewhat less excessively. Maybe an adventurer? I will test further...

On version 40d? I place my barrels on grassland, a few squares from where the magma gets pumped out and in explodes every time.

[Edit] Uhh i just tried my trap again and this time the barrel was just eaten away - no explosion. I need to test this more to see how best it works.

The only thing different was i had rainfall just before I set off my trap and the barrel had water covering it.

NEW MYTH - Does water stop normally flammable things burning? lol

It might just be the grass catching fire. Did you try it with booze but no grass or grass but no booze?

Here's a myth - I've seen this one before, but I'm calling it a myth because I haven't been able to reproduce it and I don't know what causes it.

Myth:
High skilled masons, when constructing walls, have the ability to construct engraved walls, with the value of natural engraved walls.

Yes, this has happened to me also. Just once though.

It wasn't over a previously engraved wall either, as it was a sort of guard-tower I was building on top of my entrance staircase. It was however, on top of another artificial wall (was the second floor). I dismantled it, because I'm crazy about symmetry, and I couldn't handle one engraved wall in a sea of regular ones.

Okay, these will be the conditions I'm testing right now. Running off the masterwork assumption, I'll be testing with legendaries or close to increase the chances. In addition, I'll be seeing if this effects constructed floors when I'm finished. I'll provide pics later tomorrow

Building on engraved floors:
Busted. Building on engraved floors does NOT make a wall engraved. So that can't be the cause.

Ok, I've had them building for forever now, and no walls of engraved quality. Hmm...
I'm gonna have them work on engraving now, actually... maybe engraving affects the ability to create engraved walls?

Building walls on engravings was a bug that was fixed a few versions back

I think the same effect can be achieved with simple wood. In your case, the barrels caught fire, and the fire spread to the grass.

I've got a champion equipped with an artifact crossbow, so confirmed.

Or were you talking about other kinds of normally unusable weapons?

Why is a Crossbow un-usable ?

I think he's talking about Weapon types Dwarves normally can not use... Like a Bow or something...

Yes.
I was talking about scimmitars, sabres, whips, maces and other stuff dwarves cannot make, but adventurer dwarves are said to be able to equip.
two-handed stuff and large weapons like poleaxes, longbows etc are not included as the wiki indicates these with "you gotta be at least this tall".

what? maces and scimitars are easily useable. Been there, done that. Two-handed sword wielding - THAT would be cool.
