Cage traps, goblins, noble population control, and you

I have a handful of cage traps with goblins from sieges past that I thought would be great for noble pruning given a few mechanisms.  The problem is that when I release a goblin in a sealed room with the noble, all it does is run away from the (unarmed and sometimes sleeping) noble.  In fact, the only way the goblin will attack the noble is if the noble somehow grows a spine and takes a swing at the goblin.

I had one Hammerer get her left leg lopped off at the hip when she took one (her last) swing at an elite goblin swordsgoblin.  Even when she laid there bleeding and unconscious, the (elite) goblin still did nothing but run around the opposite corners of the room trying to get away.

I guess it is because the goblin remembers it was trying to flee since the siege broke, but still, shouldn't it turn to fight if it can't run or has a target of opportunity?

The nobles might not thank you, but I will.

From what ive heard this is true for all agresive creatures after they been capured and then released. The only time ive had a incident is when a fireimp escaped between cage trasnfers, but it only fireballed everything that was in the road of it and the exit.
