40d Miraculous recovery
« on: October 13, 2008, 04:13:12 pm »

So new fort, nothing major happens. First immigration wave and one is a hunter, having never had a hunter before (I always just recruit them as marksdwarves) I decided to let this one hunt. So little while later and get the message I had been expected all along, my hunter has cancelled hunt because a batman interrupted him. I zoom on over and he has taken down one with his crossbow no problem. 3 others however have survived the bolts and reached him. He takes down one with the crossbow before a broken arm forces him to drop it, a littlewhile later he collapses unable to hold himself on his broken leg and the other mangled one. then he sucumbs to the pain and falls unconcious, my heroic yet stupid dwarfs attempt a few rescue attempts and manage to drag him a bit but keep fleeing from the bats. then suddenly he wakes up and begins crawling away from the batmen then suddenly he's legging it. I check his wounds and he is completely unharmed, somehow in his brief period of unciousness he discovered he was the dwarven equivelent of Claire Bennet.

Unfortunately the only save I have is one at the start of the fort and one shortly after the event.

Red "mangled" wounds will sometimes heal when the seasons turn.

Kogan McVillian: Gwahaha! Urist, you had no chance! Now I shall strike you down as you lie there, all limbs crippled!
Is is now Spring!
Kogan McVillian: Egads, you healed instantly!
Urist McHero: Time for some payback!

Seasons have some odd effects on people. That and traveling long distances.

He wouldn't have started walking if he was missing a leg.

yep he's fine, main problem here is the shear number of wounds that healed, it may have been luck from season change but thats like a one in (insert ridiculously high number here) both his legs were hurt (1 broken 1 mangled) and he had a broken arm as well as many minor injuries yet he suddenly went to completely fine.

May be unrelated but said hunter has taken to sleeping anywhere, if he is tired he goes to sleep, I've caught him doing it outside and whilst he doesnt have a room I do have a barracks, Ive seen him sleep in there but only because it is also my meeting room and he just went from taking a break to sleeping without bothering to go to a bed.

This sounds like a serious bug. I guess Toady won't be able to reproduce this, if you don't have a saved game from that period, when the dwarf was wounded.

Don't Hunters do that by default? I know I've had mine bunk out everywhere from rooms to the middle of the forest to right inside the gates of my walls. Try turning off Hunter in his job and seeing if he still sleeps anywhere.

That's normal. Hunters just sleep where they are when they get tired. They don't look for a bed.
Why look for a bed when that artifact weapon trap looks just as cozy to lie on?

I'm not sure how that would happen -- mangles can heal up at weird intervals right now, but it should only heal up to broken when that happens.  In any case, by the next release, it'll all be different and buggy in new ways.

I can confirm this. And actually I recall there was a similar bugreport some time ago.

In my case, I disembarked right next to a chasm, where a group of ratmen attacked my unprepared dwarves. One dwarf got her leg broken (and yes, it was broken, not bruised). After we defeated them, I noticed the injured dwarf was walking and apparently not injured any more. This happened a few more times in my games. In neither of cases the season changed.

I can imagine this will be hard to track and almost impossible to reproduce, though.

Hehe.  ;D
Okay I guess, that this problem has been solved in that case. We can check this out in the new version. It's kinda pointless to try to fix this now, since the system will be changed anway.
