Hotkeys in Action
« on: July 13, 2003, 06:28:00 am »

Here we see the caster, now protected from the spell by constraints, engaging in defoliation via holding down F1.

I added another type of magic that can summon face horrors and shadow demons, burn out nerves, and drain blood.  The first blood drain test failed...  the line targeting was broken, and instead of hitting everything on the line, it hit the whole half of the world that the line pointed toward.  Lots of desiccated bushes and unconscious rabbits...

I guess I'm almost done.  I'm going to do some cleanup now.

But the actual release might be up tomorrow...  you should probably wait until then.

Now spells can improve with skill.  This spell normally has one ray, but it gets one extra for every 40 skill points after 80...

Looks great!

Now that there are so many spells we need some targets...is it already possible to summon humans?    :D

I was putting the game up when I read your post...  so I went back and put human/random creature summoning in the healing magic art...  summoning won't put a creature right on top of you most of the time, but if you cast the spell a number of times you'll eventually get on close by.  And all of your creatures will fight each other, as long as they aren't conspecific.  I had a titan running around causing trouble during my test of the spells.

I posted it on the other running topic, but anyway, it has nothing to do with your brain.  It has to do with the extensive online documentation in Armok that rivals that of any software application produced to date.  To summarize that which clearly appears, um..., somewhere...  in the online help:

Go to the Magic Screen.  "M".
Put your mouse over a spell name, either in the main list, or better, after you press "Cast Spell".
While your mouse is over the spell name, press F1-F12.  F10 doesn't work on my computer for some reason though.
Something like [F1] should appear after the spell name.
Then when you go back to the main view, you can press F1-F12 to cast the corresponding spell.  You can also click on it where it appears in the quick action menu.

Hopefully that works.

The problem I have with F10 on my computer might be indicative of a larger problem with using function key input in windows.  I'll see what's out there as far as workarounds.

Aside from the F10 key hotkeys seem to work for me just fine.

I put up a new version that handles them in a different way.  They also only go up to F8.  Apparently F10 is reserved for windows...  I found a work around, but there was a lag associated with it, so only F1-F8 for now.

This is the only change, so there's no reason to download if your hotkeys are working.

The Hot Keys are working for me now. Did you get the color coding for body part list working? It's still all gray.
