yeah, this is a wierd one.  I had a bunch of traders from my local human civ show up, so I started moving items to the depot including a pair of narrow iron chain leggings that were apparently designated for melt.  I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but now the four wagons are stacked up at my depot, they've unloaded a couple logs, and the depot is now telling me "there are no merchants trading right now".  As well, the usual pack animals that accompany the wagons are just sitting around at the bottom of the map.  About the only other thing I could think of is that a kobold thief was around; did this thief possibly mess up the caravan?  Save will be forthcoming if anyone wants it.

Those "couple logs" might actually be pieces of a wagon -- are there a bunch of items left in the depot, or spilled nearby?

there's about 13 logs or bars marked [T] in the depot's [t] window

Do you have more than one trade depot?

If any member of the caravan is attacked by anything, you'll get this behavior, i believe.

That might explain it- I had a kobold thief get sighted, so perhaps she was the reason for the problem.  Now I'm just waiting for the merchants to go berserk so I can get rid of them :/

Actually, they usually leave after a while.

Cage trap them and sell them to their successors, you know you want to.

..Well, after my duke moved his belongings, the trade depot got built, and the three caravans and guards just disappeared, to who-knows-where.  At any rate, I guess what I need to do now is just create a better defense for merchants coming from the south.
