Remember Tomorrow. You'll find a link to download if you search these forums. It wasn't released in english, but I made a patch that translates most of it.

edit: hm, that's odd. I remember having a discussion about it here. It was in a thread about old games.

Yeah, you need to run it from DOSBox. Or a virtual machine.

SotS sounds different. I'll have to try the demo for that.

SotS is great, especialy when you get the larger ships and actually have to make tradeoffs between that 1 dreadnaught, or a whole group of cruisers. Thats my main like about that game :P

Heh. This thread inspired me to reinstall and play Master of Orion II. I'd forgotten how fun it was.

Btw, SotS reminded me heavily of Remember Tomorrow. Not least because it embraces the same (or largely similar) gameplay philosophy, and humans in it have the same mode of FTL travel that Remember Tomorrow has.

SoaSE is getting an expansion pack.  Well, it's not really an expansion pack so much as an expansion "pak"  Like the Mechwarrior MekPaks.  It just adds a bunch of new units to each side and some gameplay tweaks.  All stuff they could have released for free as a patch, or waited to include in a full expansion.

Also, X3 Terran Conflict is coming out soon.

Though you'll need a monster processsor to play it.

I have it!  But I never played Reunion so I'm gonna try to get through the story mode of that first at least...  Bought them both in a bundle the other day.

Course I never finished X2 either.

The best part of X3 reunion is the Completly optional storyline.

Starships Unlimited is a fun shareware 4x title. I don't remember how much the full game costs. I keep it installed on my computer and still play it now and then.

wow, it seems to be the game I was always looking for. I always thought: why don't they make a game like MOO 1, where I don't have to babysit every stupid colony but instead design über cool warschips and fight with them.

I really have no idea why other game designers did not just see that MOO1 was completely brilliant, the research was brilliant, the planet management was brilliant, the invading planets and steal technology was brilliant (Go sakkra spam). The lack of stupid micro management was just what made the game so enjoyable

only the AI sucked and the combat could be improved upon, but they decided to make MOO2 an entire different game

I could never get into the X games. Probably because they never really improved the terrible interfaces, dull and clunky combat, and simple political system, and essentially released the same exact game over and over.
