Stats influence how strong of people are willing to join you.
Rep from quest influences how many are willing to be in your party at a time.

Yup, just sit in a corner tossing rocks for an hour and you can recruit as many peeps as you want.

Go to an evil area with "T"ravel and fight every ambush.  This should get you trained up fairly well for megabeast fights.

I did that with a swordsman, and now he can take out skeletal Cyclopes with a single blow.  I asked Captain Mayday for someone named after him to show up in Nist Akath.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

... Then recruit every wrestler you can to shield you with their meat.  Their delicious delicious meat.  :P

I have no idea why I just found that so epicly funny.

Yup, just sit in a corner tossing rocks for an hour and you can recruit as many peeps as you want.
On a similar note, if you 'S'neak and bring a bunch of rocks or basically any item at all, you can pelt them with items without being noticed until you get within one square. Usually.

A lucky shot with that can really mess up someone's day, or at least soften him up a little before getting into a proper fight. Or let your buddies suicide into him and give you a chance to run away for another shot.

And give you silly stat bonuses with some training, of course.

'course, Sneaking slows you down a ton, especially if you've modded movement speed, and it won't help you if you walk within 1 square in order to actually find him. Then again, you automatically stop sneaking when you're spotted, so it can't really hurt if your character is about as fast normally.

(Somehow, I managed to double-post quoting my own entire post. I'm not sure how.

This is the best fix I can do here. Sorry 'bout that.)

Quoting a post without anything to add isn't a good idea.
But otherwise yes, sneaking is one of the best ways to kill something safely, unless of course you simply use Dwarf Companion to make yourself Legendary +5 in all your skills and Superdwarf in all stats.
But you can still be killed by a lucky arrow/bolt.

Almost as bad as a priest or child breaking your limbs?
*shudders* from just thinking of that happening again.

Completing quests gives you recruitment slots? Hot damn...now if only I could somehow play as my bronze colossus who suplex'd to death 39 semimegabeasts and a mad horse by the name of 'Spottedscaled'. -sigh- ._. I retired him in a town, but I don't think I can play as him again because I cheated him out of being killed by encasement in ice...

i always find priests are armed with crossbows because they used to be hunters before they went religious.
