I -sort of- liked when I tested out that new wand on that puny rat(or some similar weak monster) over there.... what could POSSIBLY go wrong, it's only a rat(or similar weak monster), right? Well, not if that wand is a "transmute others" and turns that thing into a deep troll(or similar strong monster).

Ahh, yes the transmute others wand...

I zapped that thing on an ogre once to try and get something easier to kill.

I got a F***ing WYVERN! I tried zapping it again but it resisted!

...

I hate those wands now. And unexpected fireball wands that you zap up close. Ouch.

Spoiler:  "Deekin the Cutter" (click to show/hide)

Rather proud of this little guy. He survived for a really long time, compared to other characters I've played. Of course, the bloody centaur got him. I forgot about those two potions in my inventory, and lo' and behold, Might. Crap.  >:( Gotta be more careful next time.

One of my favorite bits of this run, was when another kobold started pumping me full of poison needles. I was very sick by the time he died. So, I quaff-id' a potion I had two of.
It was poison. :o
The next was restore abilities, but the very last potion was healing. Huzzah!

Also, the fact that they shorten my race/class to KoCK, is going to ensure that I play many more of these. :-X

That reminds me: if you guys see Snorg, run away. Fast. He resisted my disintegration wand.

I completely agree with this. My best character, a lvl 19 Demonspawn Chaos Knight, almost died on lvl 13 because of that guy. He's really really tough to beat.
Code: [Select]
24806 | Snake:1 | HP: 3/87 [Snorg (4)]

P.S. Also Erolcha isn't nice at all. Killed my promising Deep Elf Conjurer just after I found a Staff of Conjurations. She (He?) shoots (throws?) crystal spears that do massive amounts of damage. Approaching her straight on (giving her a chance to blast you away) is probably is a bad idea.

My best character so far was Sludge Elf Monk that got to charlevel 12, about 10 in the dungeon and 4/4 in the orc mines and lair. I backtracked a bit and did the first levels of the other branches because I figured it's the safest way to get stronger.

Anyways I found some ubar +7 +5 sword of unholy pwnage with I don't know what kinds of hurtful(to the opposition) sideeffects. It totally fubared my training, but I used it anyway and it, well, pwned face. But with no potions left there was some minor screwup that got me in between 3 enemies, one of which was a deep troll or something :(

Anyways, I'm starting to dislike the game a litte bit, because you only have so many tactical options. A lot of the success comes from the equipment you find. (Unless you do dumb stuff and accidentially put on the "cursed -3 ring of screw yourself over royally" without any remove curse options). Yea, some class are less depending on equipment than others, but in the end it's a bit like going to the casino. (Drunk and on tranquilizers)

So, I'm still looking for more complex roguelikes with tilesets...any pointers?

The only thing I really don't like is the overpowered named characters. They're like bosses, but you don't get anything from them. Sigmund shouldn't be able to slaughter 95% of characters that he sees. Same with Snorg and all the other ones I've never seen.

I've never tried Stone Soup. What does that add to the game?

Cuts a few races, adds some (I think), adds dungeon branches, actually gets updated, and has miscellaneous balances. I don't know what else they added.

Oh god the double post! The shame!

Anyway, Crawl hates me.

Officially.

Orcish Plate Mail of Fire Resist.
I was a Mummy Venom Mage.

How does that prove crawl hates you?

Just wear it and cross-train for a tank role. Plate+fireres = win for mummies.

But if he wears the platemail, he effectively loses his ability to cast spells, and thats all that character that he has made is really good for.

Just had a quick mess around with a Mer-serker Monk.
They actually seem to work quite decently, from my 'run around and don't bother to actually think things through' run. Of course, finding some decent gear would have likely made me pay more attention to what i was doing instead of picturing my monk running up to sleeping rats, punching them while going "Choo!" and watching their lifeless bodies sail through the air.

I just discovered Stone Soup. Awesome. I was playing a Vampire Necromancer, but I was too stingy with the potions of heal wounds (again) and a phantom got me. I don't know if they would have helped much anyway, as my pain spell was of no use, my axe couldn't poison him, and my undead army was in my backpack at the time.
