Frustrating Melee Weapon bug.

I sent my dorfs thru a training regiment of wrasslin' before giving them training weapons, well the first step is done but when I assign them weapons (swords and spears) they will head to my armory and stand walk over a weapon like they're picking it up and head out the door, when they get halfway out the door they realize they didnt actually pick up their weapon so they turn around and repeat times infinity. My marksdwarves didnt have a problem, and wrestling worked fine. Is this a known bug? am I doing it wrong? Thanks in advance.

Are they holding each other's clothes in there hands.  They may have ripped them off each other early on, and have been beating each other silly with their pants almost the entire time.  It's still unarmed, so they don't drop it.

Check their inventory and dump the items in there hands or something. That will free their hands to hold weapons, since they forgot what they have been holding.

I solved it, haha I'm still trying to figure this game out. I was telling them to use swords but all I have are 2handed swords so I had to change it so that they were using 2h instead of 1h

Y'know the knowledge that my new recruits training in wrestling are, infact, prone to stripping each others pants off and whipping each other with them suddenly makes my whole military a lot more .. camp.

Now I can just envision them all running over to the barrack's beds, suddenly having their job statuses changing to 'Pillow fight!' and little apostrophes and quotation marks representing feathers going everywhere when they spar.
