That is SO amazing, between the ability to have human bowmen, dwarven lashers, druids that are powerful staff users, and weapons that train civilian skills, this thread is AWESOME.

I'm sending a link to this to everyone I know who plays DF, which is all of one person...

Surprise me Trebek!

That's the second time I've seen Will Ferrell without becoming physically ill.  The first time required more cowbell.

Also, I just thought of something...  What about farming implements?  Thresher flails, grower scythes, herbalist sickles, cook ladles, all sorts of fun stuff.  Furthermore, it could allow certain members of your emergency militia to have skills relevant to the weapon they're holding.  That's always a plus.

Alright, here we go:

[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_STAFF_DRUID]
[NAME:druid staff:druid staves]
[DAMAGE:100:BLUDGEON]
[WEIGHT:70]
[RANGED:HAMMER:BLOWDART]
[SKILL:MAGIC_NATURE]
[TWO_HANDED:5]
[MINIMUM_SIZE:6]
[MATERIAL_SIZE:2]
[STICK_CHANCE:0]

That's the item entry and it's small enough for dwarves to use.

Furthermore, you need to add the following to the entity:

[ITEM_WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_STAFF_DRUID]
[PERMITTED_JOB:DRUID]

That ought to cut it. I had to search out the list of skills to figure that out though. If somebody else wants it, I'll post it.
What exactly is this nature magic skill about, anyhow? The wiki isn't helping much...

Nothing, really.  It's just a skill that elven leaders get.

It might have had some use before, but that's long gone.

It's the skill that makes you a druid. Does absolutely nothing except giving you a title, really.

Okay, here's a question...  Will a weapon that uses the ranged skill of AXE and the closeup skill of WOODCUTTING be used for cutting down trees?  If so, you could make some nice lumber axes for your woodcutters.

I'm not sure, but I think it wouldn't be able to cut trees down.  Except possibly by using [AMMO].  I think ability to cut down trees is tied to the AXE skill.

...I think chopping trees down with ammo would be AWESOME. If it works, ye just have to make a custom ammo type for it.

Axe heads, maybe?

The flying Steel axe head strikes the oak tree in the lower trunk.
It is broken!
The oak tree has been shot and killed.

Woodcutting is tied to the AXE skill, but I think it's just so that the woodcutter knows what to pick up.

The other weapons here are picked up based on what ranged skill type they're using, so the game obviously considers them to be that type of weapon (at least in some respects).  If you can get a woodcutter to pick up a "ranged axe", then you can assign the melee skill to WOODCUTTING.

It's weird, that only DIGGER has a specific association. you'd think the woodcutting would too.

Persuasion bats.

PERSUASION bats.

Yes, a bat is very good at persuading - not in the way most of us usually think of "persuading" though.

I want to see an image of a Dwarven mafia, bats, lead pipes and tommy crossbows included.

When dwarves want to commit suicide, then by Armok, they _will_ commit suicide, even if they have to spend the rest of their lives working at it!

I may be wrong, but can't you add weapon types (traditional) to the civ entries and have them show up?  (To get the dwarf bowmen and lashers)

Yeah, but they won't be assignable in fortress mode.
