Some rambling questions, and strange occurances.
« on: October 03, 2008, 08:49:54 am »

1. Is it possible to assign war animals to a soldier after he's become a champion? When I go into the [p]ref window all it tells me is the champion need not work. Same goes for trying to assign the brain damaged champions to the fortress guard.

2. What is a strangler? I had a couple of these show up on my map and chase my woodcutters around before a plague of foul blendecs appeared.

3. I think this is a bug, but, if you have an underground feature like a chasm with cave spiders, they arent supposed to show up if you dig down to the z-level that has the top most level of said chasm without first revealing said chasm right? At this rate my arena is going to become my cave spider silk farm.

4. I also have my first gcs in said chasm is it capable of crossing the chasm to where my dwarves are or will it just hang out over on it's side until I dig my way to it?

....They just refuse to stay down unless butchered, in which case their skins will haunt you until you subdue and tan them. Never has legendary butcher and legendary tanner seemed so valueable as in this release.

As to 3), I think it's a "feature" that cave spiders will appear near a chasm whether it has been breached or not.

Regarding 1 - the answer is: no.  You can't assign animals to a champion or change their role in any way once they become elevated to champion status.

Regarding 2 - Based on the raws, they look like large evil predators that leap gracefully, have three eyes, is known for resounding hoots, has a toothy maw and four arms (the better to strangle you with, presumably).  The rest is up to you.   ;)

Not sure about 3 and 4.  Haven't played a game with a chasm yet.
