I tried running it on 40d instead of 40d9 and it worked just fine.  Maybe you would want to fix that or something...

What exactly is the difference between 40d and 40d9?  Would I miss out on something if I switch save files?

Dammit guys, I didn't code this to promote child labour. I know there is not much to do for children in the game and I know it's tempting to put some green color into those empty lines in DM, but please! Be kind! :D

Can you post the actual error you are receiving? Just the first portion with the exception thingy is enough. Also, what OS are you using? Regarding 40d and 40d9: I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's mostly the new OpenGL/SDL renderer and maybe some bugfixes. So it's not that important. But it should work anyway, as most people are able to use it with 40d9.

Not related to Umi's problem, but:

I can reliably generate an exception by clicking in the white area at the right side of the screen, after the grid.  Left, right, or middle-click all do it.

Here is the entire exception report:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Choosing "Continue" works without apparent problems.

This is with the version 0.2.0.0, dated 1/10/2009.

On another note, Manager would be more useful to me if, when a dwarf is assigned a custom profession via the right-click menu, the labor settings for that profession were assigned to the dwarf.

I visualize this as working like this:

We start with every dwarf in the custom profession Hauler having all of the hauling labors enabled (green).  In addition, some but not all Haulers have masonry enabled (gray).

Now Urist Soapmaker immigrates.  I take these actions:
  • Load from DF to refresh,
  • Click Soapmaker to show Urist,
  • Right-click Urist and choose Custom Profession,
  • Choose Hauler from the list.

At this point, Urist should be assigned all of the labors that Hauler has in green, but not the ones that are gray.  In addition, any labors that Urist has that are not part of the currently-defined Hauler profession should be removed.

This would let Urist Soapmaker become a Hauler without me having to locate the intersection of Hauler and Soapmaking to turn it off.

Edit: I should have mentioned that Foreman's Write to DF button works this way.

Any update on this? I still can't run Dwarf Manager on Vista even though I have all the requirements including .net and 40d.

Dwarf Foreman works perfectly.

Well, I was gonna come here to see if you knew it was broken with Vista and/or 40d9, but then reading the thread I found out the link from the wiki takes you to a page with version 0.3 instead of 0.6 on it. 0.6 works fine.
If any of you people having trouble with it on the past page or so got it from the wiki, get it from the first post and see if it's still not working.

Also, minor bug, it lets you click further to the right than the professions actually go, giving an unhandled exception. Nothing major, though, just a minor annoyance.

I need to be able to pick which of the two Dwarf Fortresses running to attach to. Hey, if Dwarf Fortress won't multi-thread on my dual-core, I'll just multi-task. :)

Quote
filters that hide/show dwarfs on the list based on their name/skill/skill level/labor, and others like that, as much as helpfull this program is, its still hard to find certain dwarf when you have fortress with 200+ dwarfs.

This I like. I'm often asking myself "who is the most skilled at this task?" and "how many total dwarves have this ability enabled?" which I can sort of do without the profession grouping but it is far more manual.  I just want to click the job titles at the top and have it toggle between unfiltered, dwarves of dabbling (or novice) or higher in that skill, and dwarves with that job enabled.

I had downloaded the version 3!  I just downloaded version 6 and it works.  ^_^

By the way, here is the link for anyone who needs it.  It was a pain in the rear for me to find...>_>

Hey all Just started playing and I really want to use your manager for all my workers.  I have the latest  .net and I'm running XP.  However every time I go to start it just crashes and gives me the  Generic windows error.

However I keep getting this error.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/bush_tim/3355164147/" title="dwarf man error by bush_tim, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3625/3355164147_b83c9a9688.jpg" width="500" height="400" alt="dwarf man error" />[/url]

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

I never used the original, but I think I might have to try this out... scrolling through the unit window when I want to set my peasants (or glassmakers on a sand-less map, or milkers when I can't find purring maggots...) to actually do stuff is a pain in the arse.

I'm using 0.6 with Dwarf Fortress .40d on Vista 64-bit, and when I load manager up it doesn't load anything from my saves. I tried 0.2 and that didn't load anything either. Am I putting the file in the wrong place or something?

EDIT: ah I just realised Dwarf Fortress has to actually be running in the background when this is loaded  ::)

How do I use the Determine Memory Layout thing? I did as the instructions requested, then edited the proper XML file with the updated variables.

However, I get an error on start-up saying I use an Unknown Version and it refuses to start. This is trying to get it to work with 40d10.

System.Exception: Unknown DwarfFortress version (checksum is 0x49c59b94)

It's not working with 40d10 because the memory offsets keep changing for whatever reason, so the location in the ram where these things are stored keep changing.  The best way to make your changes is to back port your save to 40d, run your utilities, then port them back to 40d10 for framerate.

Pah. :( I'll just go back to d9 for now... Until the interface for job selection gets improved or the memory thing changes.
