Peru's history is a direct refutation of every single statement you have made. It is a third world country for the same reasons America will be one, poor economic decisions on the part of the leadership. The people can be lazy AND generous at the same time and the economy can still be successful, based on a few key concepts. Likewise, an industrious and stagnant specialist economy can become a bankrupt nation at the invention of a simple process.

You obviously do not know the definition of "third world." Given the system as it was originally established, as outdated as it may be now, America is physically incapable of descending ranks in the system. The system is as thus:

1: Has undergone the Industrial Revolution.
2: Is undergoing the Industrial Revolution.
3: Has not undergone the Industrial Revolution.

You are wrong.
First world: Aligned with the US and their allies.
Second world: Aligned with the USSR and their allies.
Third world: Everything else

So, by definition, the US can't be a third world nation.

Its not racist to look at a culture's work ethic as a whole. People in South America work shorter hours and have fewer work days in a week then people in the United States. Thats not saying they are lazy, thats saying they consider spending time doing something besides working to be valuable. I'm not talking about the rural poor or saying unemployment is high because they don't like working. There are exceptions to every rule. I didn't invent the mid-day nap for latin american culture. They did. They are being racist against themselves!

Oh man, and if you haven't seen anything more idioitic then my not-at-all-serious look at economies, you are pretty sheltered indeed. Espeically coming from somebody on a internet forum. 

Anyways, if your talking about ranking nations, just look at the Human Development Index and maybe the nation's GNP. the HDI is a little biased, though because they rank African nations very low for some reason. http://hdr.undp.org/en/statistics/ there you go. Chopped up into High Medium and Low.

Isn't GNP a ridiculous rating too? Been a while since I did geography but I thought GNP was actually increased by things like natural disaters causing large insurance claims and similar.

Yeah, it is to an extent not all that great of an indicator, but its a useful rating if you keep it in perspective. For example Brazil as a 1.2 trillion dollar GNP, while if the entire former Soviet Union's GNP adds up to about 1.1 trillion dollars. Least this was the case a few years ago. Brazil is a powerful country and is near-superpower status, I'm not sure it quite rivals Russia.

At the same time the USA has a GNP of 10 trillion, making up about 1/3rd of the world's GNP.

To make my post somewhat interesting, let me point towards my post title. The biggest problems about democratic countries are that everyone has "power". Sadly, everyone includes the easily doctrinated and naieve majority.

I never got that, democracy seems waaaaay worse than most forms of goverments, the only reason it is so popular is because it lets people feel like they have some choice. When you think about it logicaly the baisic principal behind monarchy is much more sound (raising someone specifically for the job, teaching them how to do it effectively) and its the whole divine right thing that is bad.

You underestimate the democracy. While a strong leader can be a boon to its nation, it's more propable to end with a stupid or inept one. It's harder to fuck something up when you're one of many. Most mechanisms in democracy work as fail-safes to prevent a stupid one from destroying the country.

This time it didn't work mainly because it was not the politicians who caused the crisis in the first place. It's just the view that "the market will take care of itself" coming back to the American people and biting them in the ass. It's technically true - it's what's going on right now. The banks are to blame mainly because they created large amounts of uncovered money by their credits policy.
