Hmm...dampish.
« on: September 29, 2008, 10:45:44 pm »

It's always raining at my current fortress. This has allowed me to make a rather fascinating discovery: depth one water doesn't evaporate in the rain. I've breached a small murky pool, and am waiting to see how large of a flood I can create. It may be a bit of a pain if this never dries up, though. Anybody else seen a map that always rains before?

I have one that rains a lot, but I've never had one that always rains. What biome are you in? Your embark sounds awesome.

Cool, I've never seen a biome that rains continuously - I have seen murky pools that weren't able to refill themselves, though - I had believed they evaporated even during rain?

Did you turn off weather while it was raining? I read of a bug that causes the rain to never, ever stop. Either that or it stops on the 2nd of Felsite or whatever month it was originally scheduled to end, regardless of said date having passed

Never ending blizzard is pretty cool, should try it sometime

I've never had something like that before but in one of my previous fortresses all my ponds would start out in the spring full, dry up in the summer, and then in the fall it would rain giving them the 1-2 depths of murky pools then freeze over in the winter, only to thall the next spring at the starting depth of 7/7.

I ended up busy building a cistern for my fortress and digging thru one of the ponds right about the time it started raining, it flooded a few tiles but only 1 deep or so nothing really impressive.

I had a fortress that started raining shortly after I embarked and never stopped once. I eventually had to abandon it because the constant wildfires were genociding both my dwarves and my FPS. Damn rain didn't do shit to put out the fires.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Nope, no messing with the weather involved. And it is a pretty cool embark site. Got a full height mountain in the bottom right corner and forest sloping down from that. Claystone over most of the map for the top stone layer, and there's supposed to be marble under that, I think. No magma, though. Pity, really. Here's the seed...

EDIT: I'm pretty sure the rain is normal. I started on the same site using a copy of the region, and the rain came down. Started really soon, and hadn't stopped by the time I got bored.

Now if i could find a glacier site where that happened 'naturally' i'd be very very happy.  :D
