Granite 1: Entrance...
Bravechannel? Kind of ironic, seeing as how we're hiding behind one. I, Tireon Kolonul, plan to make this pit of death into something inhabitable... Or, failing that, I plan to make us live for as long as possible in this uninhabitable wasteland. Of the original 7 settlers, I've managed to find one still alive, calling himself Sazir, and apparently taking half of the fort as his bedroom.
And all of the fort as his dining room
How dare he think my bedroom is his dining room!
We have little to no supplies, food, and drinks. Our remaining
meat shields laborers are as follows:
So far we have 1 crazed survivor, 2 useful dwarves (me and the chef), 2 wrestlers that will only get themselves killed, a fish cleaner (AKA slacker), 2 woodcutters (amazingly, there are still trees despite the millions of tons of ash outside), and 1 miner...
My overall assessment is that we are all horribly, horribly screwed.
I have organized my plans into several, smaller, more hopeless plans:
First, I'm making Plan 'Stop the Crazy Farmer.' This will be implemented right away. I will still allow him the freedom to do a lot as he pleases, as he is somewhat of a figure/lunatic.
I have begun construction on Plan 'No More Aquifer.' Hopefully, this will make mining for stone possible.
Also, note that Plan 'Make Everything Better' has also been started and Plans 'Trading Goods,' 'Expanded Farming,' and 'Advanced Protection' are to come.
Granite 4
The fish cleaner has taken to fishing in the aquifer. He has probably lost his mind. The cat continuously complains about missing limbs and phantom pains.
Granite 22
The layout of the fortress has caused unknown amounts of stress upon these dwarves' psyches. The Chef is refusing to brew up more drinks... This is bad. We have fifteen million turtles strewn about the fortress as food. We have gotten to Phase Two of 'No More Aquifer. Phase Three will begin shortly.
Slate 9
Phase Three of 'No More Aquifer' is complete without Phase Two being complete. Just discovered that the crazed lone survivor had more rooms than necessary. He will be dealt with swiftly.
Slate 17
Immigration Services has sent some of their outcasts to assist our destitution. Why, oh why... We've received a Gem Setter, Peasant, Miller, Bone Carver, Metalcrafter, another Peasant, Gem Cutter, Leatherworker, yet another Peasant, Stoneworker, a...
another Peasant, a Child, and...another Child.
So, overall, we received one Mason, 10 almost useless dwarves, and 2 extra mouths to feed.
Slate 22
One of the new Peasants has been taken by a mood... He will likely go insane. Or maybe not. He wants rocks and logs. That's fairly easy to obtain.
Slate 26
Trouble's a-brewing... This is not good... Why do they have to be ZOMBIES?!? That's right. Three zombie imps and a zombie sturgeon (he's hiding in the corner) are out to kill every last one of us.
Felsite 4
We are saved! A Woodcutter managed to kill off two of the zombie imps, and the other Woodcutter killed the last one, while the dog savior Melbilbothon managed to kill the zombie sturgeon on its own. Miraculously, no one was killed, though the dog was slightly injured.

After having all the stone locked behind doors, the Peasant has begun construction.
Felsite 17
Numgemsit... the Obsidian Amulet is complete... It's worth more than the whole fortress, sadly enough.
Felsite 23
I have bad news. We lost one of our Miners in a magma accident. He was a valiant Miner...
On the other hand, Plan 'No More Aquifer' is almost complete!
Hematite 3
...Oh dear god. Why did I try! The aquifer has been nulled... But things went horribly wrong.
I seemed to have forgotten how magma engineering works! Closing a door on magma melts the door. This will be noted for future decisions. As well as water usage.
A new plan has been added: Plan 'Fix The Screw-up!' which is now half the previous plan's progress due to the now burning pick... and, less importantly, Miner.
Malachite 14
Success! The Aquifer has been punctured! Excavation will begin soon!
Malachite 19
Congratulations, boys... We've got rock.
It took 4 months, 1 dwarf, a pickaxe, and pointless screw-ups, but it's done! Exploratory mining, go!
Not only have we finally gotten to stone, but we now have magma buildings up and running. Or we will eventually.
Malachite 23
Despite all the new renovations, no new migrants appeared. Well, we're just fine and dandy without them!
...jerks.Galena 10
Well, all is now slightly well in the fortress. Despite the unnerving fact that the
CHILDREN (Who, by the way, are brothers, I just found out) have greater social skills than any of the adults, AND are more powerful, they have not been completely useless. They now gather plants and converse with passerbyers, occasionally pulling levers and deconstructing. Many new bedrooms have been built on the lower floors. As per the Survivor's orders, no one has touched this 'Torso Dog''s memorial, despite all conventional knowledge. Plans are being made to give the dead a proper tomb... I find staring at the coffins in the food stockpile a little creepy... Especially since all the zombies are around and what-not.
So far, almost all Plans have been finished (Plan Advanced Protection is still in the works...)
Galena 25
The Leatherworker has been possessed. I've got five Dwarfins on that she loses her mind, as she wants some leather and some cut gems... To make what, I have no clue, but I hope she dies a horrible death. I dunno where she's gonna get leather.
Limestone 15
Despite my wanting to keep the Leatherworker, I have already set-up precautions to her insanity. Unfortunately, she was married to the Carpenter.
But, as you can see, the death of his wife won't phase him. So, let's get killing!
Limestone 17
A caravan has arrived!
Limestone 20
I think I have gotten the materials needed for the Leatherworker's demands. It's rather unfortunate I couldn't use my drowning room... Because it was totally worth the
BLACK DIAMONDS AND LEATHER!!! We've also gained quite a few animals. The Survivor said they had animals when they first stopped here. Him and his crazy stories. Just like that fireman he claims to have killed single-handedly.
Whatever.
We've also received some more seeds for Pig Tails and Cave Wheat. This should help with the lack of bags and more diverse selection of alcohol. We finally have an anvil. We've gotten some leather for some armor. We've got some cloth for some new clothes in the near future. And a couple of gems.
Overall, this has been very fortunate. Hilariously, the Mason (now Trader) gained a bunch of trade experience from his experience trading.
Limestone 25
Another artifact has been created, Rodimbavast Zikeltotmon (cow leather shield), and I seem to have found a pattern in them. It seems that every artifact is always worth at least twice of what the FORTRESS itself is worth. Good news is that this artifact is useful... when we get an elite fighter. Bad news is that the Leatherworker gained absolutely zero experience. I would rather have wanted to test my room... Oh well. Back to work everyone!
Asked for a bunch of stuff I figured we'd need next year. Go me!
Sandstone 13
Our leader (I mean the Survivor, as he thinks he is more suitable for dealing with other people, which, though I hate to admit, is slightly true) has taken it upon himself to do everything BUT conduct a simple meeting with the trade liaison. And when I tell him that 'No, you can't plant seeds, you need to meet with the liaison. I don't care if that log isn't in the stockpile. No, we already have Carpenters making beds! Now, you're tired??? After all that work I told you NOT to do?' If it weren't for him being so useful otherwise, he'd be choking on water.
...No migrants... again. Do they hate us?
I've noticed that our trees don't grow back when cut down. So, I've asked for tower-cap logs. They're at 170% of the price, but it's better than nothing. I plan to make prepared food for the traders next time they come, as they'll pay almost twice the price.
Timber 16
Because of the needed space for more food, I have added another layer to the food stockpile. All the graves have been moved to a more suitable position. I have ordered more mining for stone, as our wood will become less and less with time. I have made more room (and far better than the barbaric dwellings we had before) and am having them furnished. The dining room is much improved, with statues of me in each corner. The farms have been expanded. As for Plan 'Advanced Protection,' well...
It's not much, but it'll protect us from a small siege or ambush. I suspect the Elves may be against us, as I didn't see their traders this year, and the goblins have never been on our side. I have considered filling the moat with magma or water, but there seems little point, as nothing can escape the moat anyhow, and anything that can fly will just get over it.
Timber 20
...Kid's dead. Luckily, I convinced him that the Chestnut Table wasn't even in a room, at which he immediately stopped partying. Yes... children are so easily misled.
Moonstone 9
Woodcutter has been taken by an odd mood. And he's taken over... the leather works? Hm... odd. Well, let's hope he's a better leather worker than the possessed one. He wants some leather, rock blocks, logs, and shells. We've got everything but the blocks, so I THINK we'll be fine.
Moonstone 15
The Woodcutter finally got his materials.
Also, the other Woodcutter started a party... I just don't get why they think they have time.
Moonstone 18
Oh... oh god. Why me? Not only did the Woodcutter claim various material we could have used productively, but he also made...
He didn't even bother to make a left one!!! And he's now a legendary TANNER!!! WHY?!?! He used THREE pieces of leather, ROCK BLOCKS, WOOD, AND SOME SHELL! That's enough for like three sets of gloves!
Opal 1
I have taken it upon myself to raise morale of my fellow dwarves, and have so begun construction on an additional layer of what the Survivor calls Torso Dog Memorial. The stories he recounts about this dog are outrageous and fluctuate wildly. But, the other dwarves find them amusing and we will add another layer to it, in this dog's memory.
Opal 9
Zombie Imp attacks. Impslayer rockets him into lava, where his dead corpse now lies.
Opal 18
Well, what do you know? The Leatherworker had a baby boy! Back to work, slave!
Opal 28
The additions to Torso Dog Memorial are finished! There is now one extra level with alunite floors and obsidian walls. I also added a missing wall on the floor below. This shall surely raise our hopes!
Obsidian 6
Tanner is knocked unconscious for no reason... Odd. Oh my god! His left eye is gone! What happened?!?
I think he used his eye to make that mitten.
Obsidian 10
Party at the cage. You coming? I'll let it go because these dwarves worked hard this year and need a break.
Haha. Cute. A dwarf sleeping in his parents' bed even though his room is across the hall...
Also, I've discovered a bug in the magma glass smelter. Instead of repeating a task until it can't, it repeats by looping the tasks over and over again. Odd. Maybe this is new.
On another note, the Gem Setter just had a baby girl! Well, dangnabbit, why isn't everyone partying?!?
Oh right. We are!
Obsidian 16
The Tanner just threw a party in the dining room... Even though there's one at the cage. I think it's now a contest to see how many people come to theirs.
Obsidian 18
The table party already has 4 and the cage party has 2.
Obsidian 22
The table party attracted the only other guest at the cage party, as well as another guest. 1 to 6.
I've decided to give Sazir a tomb in Torso Dog Memorial. It'd be his greatest wish to be buried with his most beloved story. All the other dwarves are jealous, but this shall now be saved for our most accomplished and famous dwarves. I might give Impslayer his tomb here, in time.
This is the second level of Torso Dog Memorial.
Granite 1
Spring has finally arrived. There's still some parties going on, and I'll have to stop those soon. Hopefully, I might step down and go about farming the fields, making some obsidian doors, and spinning some thread... and sewing. Don't think me one of those pansy Elves that never show their faces here. No way. I just think clothing might raise morale in this fortress. It might be a while before I can start making some clothes, but I wanna do it some day.
I've got one of the Woodcutter's making glass toys, and the Chef is now a full-time cook. I've told my successor what to make for next year's trade caravan. Well, I'm going to build a Loom and a Clothier's Shop. It was fun.
