Alright, this may be an unholy sin against nature, but I'm trying to mod the game such that I can build a wagon fortress.

I just replaced [CREATURE:DWARF] with [CREATURE:EQUIPMENT_WAGON] in entity_default, and made some changes to wagons' creature entry.

This is what happened right after I embarked:


** Starting New Outpost **
Feb Koltekkud, Mango Tree Peasant has been scuttled.
Ineth Bimozsit, Pine Peasant has been scuttled.
Kadol msazir, Pine Peasant has been scuttled.
Sibrek Libashmatul, Mahogany Peasant has been scuttled.
Sodel Likotgoden, Glumprong Woodcutter has been scuttled.
AtĦr Tekkudistrath, Mangrove Carpenter has been scuttled.
Thob Mafolnabas, Oak Miner has been scuttled.

and then the message screen reading: "Your civilization has crumbled to its end"

Does anyone know if you can actually make this work?  (I've heard it suggested a few times as an utterly ridiculous thing to do, but I've never heard of actually being done.)

This would be hilarious to see. If you're able to do it, I approve 100%. Doing absurd things like making a 30 z level tall pyramid or playing as wagons is what DF is all about.

Yup, this is what DF is all about,  I once started a Dragon fortress on the site of a goblin civ, and immediately drafted all of my starting 7 into the miliarty, and stationed them on top of the goblin tower.

I learned that fortress mode creatures are still use abilities like firebreath.

Fun times.

Try embarking in a desert. It might have been that they all appeared with boulders or trees inside of them and died instantly. Also, they will not be able to do anything as currently, wagons have no hands.

I belive I heard that things that have the [EQUIPMENT_WAGON] Tag try to path to a trade depot, if they are unable to access one. they kill themselves by 'scuttling'.

Maybe try building a fort with dwarves to just build a trade depot, then reclaiming with the wagon civ?

won't that get rid of them being 3x3 wagons?
I guess it'll still be funny having a wagon civilization, without them being 3x3 squares.
I think I'll also need to give their front wheels the grip token

Alright, so I tried this,

And I can start a fortress, however, all of the wagons are on the ground (brown background), have red + signs flashing on them, and are unable to do any jobs.  When I play as a Wagon adventurer, I immediately drop all of my starting weapons/shields, and drop onto the ground, when I try to pick anything up, it informs me that I "don't have a free grasp".   What needs to be fixed?
