Largest pump system to date. 6500+ power used.
« on: September 28, 2008, 12:08:39 pm »

http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-3608-hammerwalls

I intend to (and already have a good 20% of it done) construct walls where the water has been pumped out. This will allow me to build the foundations of the town.

Also, as of this morning all the water inside the area has been pumped out to 1/7 or 2/7.

The one major problem is all the pumps slows my computer to 3 fps hehe, so it will take a while but I'll get it done.

Also, no stone has been used aside from the mechanisms. I have a massive forest on this fortress and intend to use it to it's fullest.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Thank you :D

It apparently didn't upload level 18 where the water is being pumped out. Don't know why that is but you can guess what's there.

There is a TON of wood strewn all about the forested area above the shore, and some random junk strewn about the shore on certain parts. How did all that stuff get there?

How do you make the power for this ? 65 Water-wheels ?

(I guess the answer is in the map, but i can't really read these...)

This fortress is 33 years old!!!

Rightous!

I'm guessing you picked the area you did because of the rock down there, where you intend to dig down?  (without attaching to the mainland, naturally)

Yep!

Windmills are the only source of power.

Wood and stuff is strewn from a previous pumping system attempt I had.

Hehe thanks. It's sad to think that in my current plans (I don't have em written down, just in my head) that the pumps will eventually be destroyed. I wonder if there would be a way to preserve them. Maybe I should design a temple with a screw pump in the center for show, dedicated to the dwarven god of mechanisms.

You could just leave them be, but disconnect the power source. I think they will not drain your FPS once you stop them.

Good heavens, that's a scarily large amount of pumps.

You do realize that you wasted some power on the axles between all the windmills, right?

Oh I KNOW. I just wanted to allow for the pumps to continue running at near max power if a insane dwarf decides to topple 1 or 2.

I guess after building 6500+ worth of windmills one or two wasted on axles do not hurt that much  ;D
