You can also create creatures with the smelter.  Use the PET object type to create the creatures.  You have to set up the smelter up to be caved in by the adventurer in order to release the creatures.

I still have to test the agressiveness of creatures created by this method, but I do know they will move about and may make some interesting things happen.

That is amazing!

Now I need to redo my dungeon, so when the door is opened 5 smelters are destroyed in the deeps releasing all the baddies I had intended to be there!

Can someone upload the save to something that is not rapidsuck?
I can't download it because it only allows it to be downloaded 10 times. ::)
Whats the point of this thread if nobody can download the save?

There isn't one.

Seriously, people. Use the Dwarf Fortress File Depot.

* Myroc notices topic.
* Myroc reads through the topic.
* Myroc declares the topic full of win and awesomeness.
* Myroc will incinerate someone if he can't get access to the save file soon.

I forfeit my turn and elect to re-construct this fortress at a future date.

I'm keeping my eye on this thread, but don't put me on this list just yet. Maybe when I have a stroke of inspiration I'll do one of those palaces mentioned so long ago.

My fortress will require a massive glass-production plant, so should I take some magma or find a forest?

whatever you prefer. you can use the dwarf companion thingy to stick a few tiles of magma in a fort and then remove them when you abandon.

I PMed Tibbles, but I don't expect him to do his turn because the last time he was online was 24-02.
Ah, well, let's hope and wait.
Also, [NO_SLEEP][NO_EAT][NO_DRINK][SPEED:1] dwarves are hilarious! ;D Give them [NOFEAR][NOEMOTION][SWIMS_INNATE][SIZE:50][DAMBLOCK:50][NONAUSEA][NOPAIN][NOSTUN][NOBLEED][NOEXERT][ATTACK:MAIN:BYTYPE:GRASP:punch:punches:10:20:BLUDGEON] and you'll have uberdwarves. I don't know how strong such a dwarf would really be, but a single no-skill dwarf could definitely kill an entire siege in a few seconds.

Just make a reaction that instantly produces a hundred or two glass blocks. ::)

Also, i want to make a 10z level shrine made out of solid gold. Sign me up!

Edit: Speaking of which, does building constructions with metal bars use the masonry skill or something else?'

Edit edit: One thing bothers me: Why are there tentacle demons everywhere?

Since I'm leaving for 5 days today, I'd like to quickly bounce my idea off you guys. I want to build a sort of dungeon with an adjustable water level - you pull one lever and the water drains, a second and it fills one level, a third and it fills two levels, flooding the channels running along the halls. The treasure would be hiding in a room guarded by several locked doors which you'd have to pull levers all over the dungeon to open. Different water levels would allow you to access only portions of the dungeon at a time.

But here's the problem: how do I set up the water controls? I want the controls to shut off automatically when the water's filled a level, and I'm thinking pressure plates will do the job, but I've never set up something so complex. is it even possible to shut off a pump/hatch like this?

Anyway, next person up: have fun and don't mysteriously disappear on us!
