Hi, guys! I'm back. For some reason unknown, the whole bay12-Homepage didn't work for me for the last week or so. Well, whaaatever.
I'm kinda depressed... The project has been running for a month and we have the total of two fortresses and three skips. Is this normal?
I'm starting to doubt that it was a good idea. So many problems...

That's normal.

People see it, get excited, sign up, and can't do it.

Toady's old provider pulled the plug on him. He moved to a new host site. That's why the forum has been down.

Again, I recommend that we implement a time limit for turns in real life days. Giving people one week to respond to the first PM would probably be fairest. Once you've started I'd say that one week from your most recent post would cover us from people who lose interest and just disappear from the face of the earth.

Also, it looks like Boksi has it right now. ^^ Given that he just posted he has a we

Huh? I've seen a few odd, cut-off posts like this 'round the forums since the recovery from the downtime. What's up with them?

Mayhaps test if puressure plates react to water?

Nah, just something extra. We can survive with levers. The entrance to the dungeon can be sealed by a lever that sets in motion other traps. Like releasing floodwaters, or having magma melt supports.

Actually, what would be cool if a dungeon was based around sealing away the HFS, with an adamantine floor paved over the entrance that you need to demolish with a cleverly placed cave-in mechanisim. Then you need to fight the demons.

Hmmm... I would need to have the whole thing set-up before breaching the pits.

Can the pits be breached for the first time in adv mode? You can't dig, obviously, but you can do the cave-in thing _directly on the natural floor_

The only thing that comes to mind is carving out the level above it, and then causing a cave in on that floor, so something would drop through the floor and into the pit.

I know that will open the chamber itself, but will the HFS spawn in adventure mode if it was never discovered in dwarf mode?

Mahogany. It's more classy.

For that viciously bad pun, I'm gonna introduce a NPC named Vlynndar just so that I can kill him of in a cruel and unusual way.
Watermelons are pretty important.

Even if it's a whole ship?

An entire, gigantic mahogany ship?

Maybe an oak ship and mahogany furnishings?

EDIT: Well, Wikipedia says it's used for ships, so that's what we'll do.

well while we are waiting...lets make a list of cool things to try

a cavern with rooms of treasure, there are levers, pull the first one and it shuts the door, you need to pull more to open doors and things, but each one you pull will also release water, and if you try pull all of them the cavern will flood so choose wisely

A giant mosaic which forms the words "IT'S A TRAP!". If you pull a lever, the roof falls on your head. :D
I'm totally going to do this when I'll start playing Dwarf Fortress again. ^^

A few spoilers:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This might take a while, I'm afraid, especially with my turn with the dwarven madmen too.
