I think my worst days just come from not drinking water in the mornings or something.

I had that problem too for a while. Solved it by regularly buying instant ice tea. I can buy 1kg packs of it here, fine-grained, which *say* they last 12 l, but usually last me much longer, since about 50g per liter is more than enough. The trick here is that the little bit of sugar it contains does make the body want more, so it tends to remind you better when you need more.

You know, this made me rather curious as to how much Toady makes per hour.  So, I did a little math:

Assumptions:
Toady works 8 hours a day (probably he does more)
Toady works 5 out of 7 days (weekends are excluded but the exact number depends on the year)
A year has 365 days(we're not talking about leap years here)

Total donations for 2007 and 2008 (up to this point):
$42917.85

Donations per month (average):
$2043.70

Approximate daily salary:
$83.99

Approximate hourly salary:
$10.50

I still think he works more than 8 hours each day.
If you consider that, he might make less than minimum wage(even china's?)

Yeah probably. Not to mention that "designing" takes a lot of time also, not just coding itself. [Check out last month for example]

It's higher than minimum wage  :).  He still only makes 24.5k per year  :(.
On average, Americans make $19.29 per hour and $41,231 a year.

And software engineers are rather higher.  With a generous allowance for the unknown quality of that source, I'd say he should be making at least $50,000/year.  Double or more the current level, and a bit over $4k/month.

There are, however, other factors.  This job comes without benefits, true, but it's also something he (normally) enjoys.  Being able to turn your passion into a source of money is a very nice thing indeed.

And all of this seems to be assuming that it's only Toady One we're paying for.  How much time does ThreeToe spend on the project?

MyLittlePonyBuiltMyHotRod, this is your first warning. I would like to direct you to read our forum's FAQ and posting guidelines before posting again. Specifically we don't use swear words here, and your picture of Stalin riding a Year3 Limited Edition Starflower inside a German concentration camp was both upsetting and historically inaccurate.

Toady has other advantages to his job, besides doing what he loves.
There are the "work from home" benefits, no coworkers, no commute, &c. as well as the "work for yourself" benefits, no boss, flexible hours, &c.

I have a solution, take this girl I know (who lives in Silverdale) out to dinner and perhaps you will be rewarded with some 'stress relieving activity!'  She really is very friendly and even has a masters degree! ;)

Nooo! Girls kill productivity! Forced celibacy without distractions for Toady.

Ahahaha...but it will happen one day that Toady will find the "perfect girl" [if theres a girl like that at all  ;D ], and DF's development will slow down after that point I guess.  :D

Well i say myabe the development speed would double cause she could be an programmer or something in this direction.

With DF being, in toady's own words, a disaster in terms of structure, i don't think toady and somebody else can work on it at the same time without it violently exploding and showing everybody involved with !!Computer Chunks!!
