Here's one of the dwarves from my current fort Greedgates. 'Dopey' The Blockaded Musics died recently when goblins  made it through the walls and up into her guard tower. For 8 years she defended the fortress single-handedly and also chopped all the wood. She is survived by her husband 'Happy' and four of her five children 'Happy Jr.', 'Dopey Jr.', 'Delirious', and 'Love-Struck'. The baby whose name I forget survived the goblin attack but dehydrated because no one was around to feed it.

I love these little guys. Awesome work.

Also, anybody have a link to that pic of the dwarf mother holding a crossbow in one hand and her baby in the other?

He was talking about another picture. I remember seeing it. IT was in the fanart competition thread, I think. The picture of which he speaks was a bit more professionally done (no offense to you, charlemange - your pictures are cool) as well.

Yeah - it was more of a pen drawing. I can't remember where I saw it.

Holy yes, all that's win with that picture!!! A crossbow with menacing spikes, the infant has armoured wrappings, helmet and beard, the bearded parent dorf is actually the mother of the child, etc etc!

If I wanted to recreate the world of one of my favorite stories, I should be able to specify that there is a civilization called Groan, ruled by Earls from a castle called Gormanghast.
You won't have trouble supplying the Countess with cats, or producing the annual idols to be offerred to the castle. Every fortress is a pale reflection of Ghormenghast..

You do realize that spike is the actual crossbow bolt, peaking out over the lip?

Dorf's Name: Zas Shemzenon
Relevant Skills: Swordsdwarf
Relevant Equipment/Clothing: *Obsidian Short Sword*, bone armor with turtle shell helmet.
Wounds/Bits ripped off: Missing left arm, lopped off in a goblin ambush
Anything else you feel is important: Lives on a glacier.

Divide by zero and sacrifice some of the players to Armok probably. Though this would be somewhat cool to have around.
Oh, Toady already does such things on a regular basis. I think he calls it 'Tuesday'.

An adventuring dwarf

'Renegade' Lokum Keshanzanor
Relevant Skills: Legendary Spearsdwarf, Accomplished Thrower, Master Ambusher
Relevant Equipment/Clothing: steel armor, an adamantine spear, 5 steel spears in the backpack (for throwing), artifact silver crown (with menacing spikes of ruby)
Wounds/Bits ripped off: Left eye poked out by arrow
Anything else you feel is important: His hands are stained with blood of countless brothers - when he got to the ruins of abandoned fortress and found the artifact crown, he killed the dwarven king and took his place. However, other dwarves attacked him for his arrogance, so he was angered and exterminated every dwarf in the world. EVERY ONE.
