In which I draw dorfs
« on: September 25, 2008, 01:23:55 am »

If anyone wants a picture of one or more (but be reasonable) dwarves from one of their fortresses, I hereby call to order the official "Charlemagne draws dorfs" thread. I gaurentee you will not be disappointed, assuming years of disappointment have lowered your expectations significantly.

All you need to do to get your very own dorf portrait is fill out the below form. You can include as much or as little information as you want but I will fill in any blanks from my own imagination and, ask anyone who knows me, I'm vindictive for no reason.

Dorf's Name:
Relevant Skills: (I don't need to know everything they dabble in unless it's important)
Relevant Equipment/Clothing: (Particularly if said equipment/clothing is decorated or legendary. That said, the difference between pig tail socks and cave spider socks is probably not worth getting into.)
Wounds/Bits ripped off:
Anything else you feel is important:

If you're quick I'll probably get to yours tonight, otherwise you'll have to wait 'til tomorrow in quivering antisipation.

Oh wow.  You're a brave man.  Prepare for the inundation.

So since I'm first, I'll request a pic a my badass eponymous avatar in The Eternal Halls.

Dorf: Aqizzar Foundsword the Strategic Blade of Manors, Captain of the Guard
Skills: Legendary Axedwarf, Armor User; really good in Shield, Wrestling, Carpentry, and Wood Cutting
Equipment/Clothing: Featureless steel axe he's been carrying since embark - it's probably pretty battered by now.  He wears a bismuth bronze helm and gauntlets, random iron other stuff, a masterfully decorated left boot (of a year 1 founding), and no clothing at all.
Wounds: Grey upper spine, so probably a bad back.
Other: He has 25 named kills (mostly goblins and humans, with one named fire imp), 9 other kills (wolves, horses, and a cave crocodile), and is thoroughly covered in mud, blood, goo, and vomit.

Vanity aside, he should make a good "model dwarven warrior".  Armed, armored, filthy, and completely uncaring.

Does it have to be Dwarves? Or just Dwarf Fortress related?

If so, then I want a Unicorn riding an Elephant, firing a crossbow loaded with Carp.

I am waiting for someone to say something akin to "I fixed my init.txt to allow 500 population!  Here's a list of all of them!  Can I get them all drawn in a big group photo?"

LOL. That's a challenge. I fear the part of him being covered in mud, blood, goo and vomit and wearing only a boot, helm, gauntlets. It brings up an image of the guys in the movie 300, but without the cloaks and loincloths. Maybe one with him kicking a random naked dorf into the well.

Hmmm.  Okay, here's one for you: my dwarf character on a RP MU*, who is based on an actual dorf from my current fortress.

Name:  Urist Medtobudist
Skills: Mainly jewelry and craftdwarfship (including metalcrafting), but being a starting dwarf, has also taken his turn at engraving, mining and fighting
Equipment:  See below.
Wounds:  None, yet
Etc:  On the basis that you did say 'as much info as I like', what follows is his desc on the Mu*- do what you will with it.  Also, he's a bit of a perfectionist, which probably shows somewhat in his usual appearance.

Spoiler-cut for the convenince of YOU, the people:

Dorf's Name: Melbil Steellimb (which is humorous in ways which will become apparent)
Relevant Skills: Dyer, novice wrestler, dabbling armor user
Relevant Equipment/Clothing: one ragged pair of hoary marmot leather leggings, and a handful of dwarf blood splatters. Nothing else
Wounds/Bits ripped off: see images below
Anything else you feel is important: She holds a soft spot in the hearts of dwarves in my fortress, and guards its entrance from sneaky kobolds who would steal my treasures. After having her limbs torn asunder by a ferocious dragon, she was carried to a bed at the entrance of my fortress - where she has remained for over twenty years, without alcohol, never once leaving her well crafted larch bed. Her sacrifice to the dragon will not be forgotten. She also narrowly avoided punishment from a rogue hammerer until I locked him in a magma pipe to die slowly. How the nobles can expect her to finish production orders in her current state is beyond me.

I still drew your dorf, but please use the form in the future. It's much harder to reference a big block of text when trying to draw something. It was an insane pain in the butt drawing Urist. In fact, now that I think of it: Any post posted after this post that doesn't use the form or that uses spoiler tags will be ignored. Sorry, but I'm doing this out of the goodness in my heart and that gives me very little to work with.

Also this is for dorfs only, and especially not intentionally complex attempts to trip me up.

That said:

Urist Medtobudist

BAAAH my website went down between when I uploaded the first image and when I drew this one. I've had to get a photobucket account it'll take a few minutes to sort out and get everything displaying properly again.

I don't know what this forum's opinion of cartoonish nudity is so I played it safe.

Melbil Steellimb

I'm surprised there weren't more requests. Usually people are all over this stuff. Maybe they figured out that the drawings were going to look like fat, psychotic playmobil people.

Shut your mouth, these are high quality.  More high quality than I could make in MS paint that's for dang sure.

My only complaint is that it's hard to tell that gray triangle is supposed to be a beard, especially on Aqizzar, where it looks like part of his armor.

Really, I'm amazed I even got the first post.  No one else want's a playmobildwarf?

Gahk.  Sorry for all the trouble.  I only hope the knowledge that you are made of awesome is enough to make up for it.
