Hamachi works, download hamachi and enter the info. though i cant seem to use it so itll open up OTTD and connect to the server.

You can't use Hamachi to connect to a server that's running a different version of the game.

I still can't find the server over the internet, and I'd rather not install Hamachi on this computer.
I go "Add Server" and paste the IP address, but it doesn't register as a server being online, if there is one at all.

That's your problem. The server isn't an internet server, but a LAN server. Hamachi emulates a private LAN, allowing you to connect. Since you don't have Hamachi, you can't play on that server.

It's up right now, if you're on Hamachi you'll get notification. Also, I can't port forward so Hamachi is necessary.

Thnr:Nope, if you'll notice that if you place a station that isnt near a town it wont accept passengers and mail, thus you cant offload passengers and mail there.

Hamachi is a completely separate network adapter; that IP will do nothing, period.
The fact that the server will show up in the LAN list so you don't even NEED the IP notwithstanding..

Just got done playing Jay's server for 32 years *I joined 5 years in or so*, and made substantial progress.

We obviously had to make buildings transparent after a while, Jay later than I as he learned how I made my city so damn huge. But hey, he had more cities than I did in a smaller area too so >_>

Jay's Stuff
Jay has another area with his HQ, but that area is boring. This is his main area which he renamed the towns to places in Iowa or something.
Pretty big and has over 350 road vehicles running in it.
Biggest City size was around 36k citizens (Fighting for 4th place against one of my cities)
Money made per most recent years was around $35 million

Thndr's Stuff
Now I have a lot less stuff than Jay did, but I took my time and tried to organize my stuff. A lot of labels and many many stations. I laid out roads for my buses to go along, and once I had enough money, started expanding the roads so the city would focus on building buildings, not roads.
Biggest city was 58k citizens.
Money made per most recent years was around $5 million

You may notice that the huge conglomerate of cities has had some terraforming around it. Jay was trying to help(?) during the early years, when he was making only a boatload of cash, not boatloads as he ending up making later.

The most surprising thing is Lenfingburg Springs got over 30k citizens only with 3 bus/mail stations, I haven't even bothered with that city other than the intial route.
