I noticed that the train set being used has speed limits on the cargo cars, even though most trains exceed those speeds...

The cars improve with time. But the heavy freight cars will always slower than most trains, while passenger cars are a lot faster.

That's realistic, though.
You don't see coal trains flying by at passenger train speeds.

I think I'm getting the hang of building rail networks. I'll be experimenting on this map mostly, so expect crashes .

Also, Passenger Ferries are getting me ridiculous amounts of money. I shot from 7th to 3rd tonight.

I had ~140 million. So I spent 110m of it on a city, and 50m on the artificial island to build it on. It's "Urist ineth", or translated from dwarven, "Urist city", or fully translated, "Dagger city", though Urist not there for it's translation...

Please turn off inflation next time. Discovering that your running costs exceeds your income is not fun at all.

You know, that'd be happening without inflation anyway.

It just gets to a point where your trains start losing money because they're getting bogged down with breakdowns or poor junctions and the slight profit you were pulling gets obliterated under the mounting costs of keeping a train network running.

Although looking at the current network I have, you could say that the lack of higher-speed-limit rail wagons is hurting more than inflation. Passenger trains are doing fine.
