How to deal with adventurer mode spam?
« on: September 24, 2008, 11:00:12 am »

Sorry for the newbiesh question - I tried searching for it in the forums with no luck :-/

I started to play an adventurer after building a couple of fortresses - it is quite fun, except for all the unrelated battle spam that I get. For instance, when I make a suicide visit to my demon-infested fortress, every step I get detailed reports on how Angad the demon is biting the left pinky of Urist, and how Huror the tentacle demon is ripping Cog limb by limb.

Usually these reports fill a whole screen, and this is while I'm still on the outskirts of my previous fortress, far away from any dwarves or demons.

Is there a way to tone down the battle reports so I only get messages related to combats I can actually see? Or better yet, so that I only see the combat messages that I am directly involved with (me attacking and being attacked)?

Thanks!

I don't think there is any way to do what you ask.  Even nicer would be being able to zoom to the location of where the battle is.  There are many Magabeasts that I have seen battle messages for but have never been able to find.

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

Rather than having them directly force you to mine adamantine, I would suggest that they give you strange moods that require adamantine. "Dig out the adamantine or Urist here goes insane and dies" is suitably vicious.

(It occurs to me that you can probably get "Lovecraft" as the random name of your fortress. That's when you know you're screwed.)

I kind of like them, they give you a nice way to know what's coming.  There was the time I was exploring my decrepit fortress when suddenly I heard the sound of a GCS tearing off the head of a mountain goat.

The only way to deal with adventure mode combat message spam is to deal with it. As in mentally and psychologically.  ;)

I've never had a GCS actually rip of my head, just shake me around by it, and I die from the resulting bleeding!
