Equipping your party members
« on: September 20, 2008, 08:58:02 pm »

Is there any way to equip your party members with equipment of your own?

My adventurer is accompanied by a female maceman.
During the exploration of a cave however I had a lot of encounters with giant cave spiders.
On 2 of these encounters the mace-woman was bitten and paralysed by the cave spider venom.  On the first encounter she dropped her maul, on the second encounter her shield.

As she had no intention to grab the shield and maul again, when the effects of the venom faded away, I took the items for her. Well now, back in a secure town, I would like to give the items back to her (or maybe even buy better items), but I donīt see any way to transfer them to her. She also doesnīt take the items if I just drop them on the ground.

So, is there any way to transfer items to another person in your party?

Currently, no.  Besides getting it stuck in a wolf or some such, and hoping your companion grabs it.

I'm sure fixing this is on the to do list, though.

And sadly, wolves are not made of play-dough. Therefore it's quite impossible to get a maul stuck in them.

Unless you go into the raws and drastically alter what a maul is.

If you're lucky, your weapon/shieldless companion will wrestle the clothes off somebody and start beating everything to death with it.

I've come to the conclusion, sourcing from many first and second-hand accounts originating from both adventure mode and fortress mode, that the DF sock is not what a traditional sock is. Rather than a simple piece of cloth to protect your feet from blisters and cold within a much harder and less forgiving shoe, it is instead a powerful weapon that when wielded by the proper user, can cause great external and internal damage. Indeed dwarves, upon seeing such great weapons made of such common a material as spider silk or rope reed (or pig tails) immediatly covet two of their own. Thus, the sock fetish is not simply a fetish for clothing, but a allusion to the dwarven love of well-crafted and exotic weaponry.

Or to sum it up with an analogy:
For the dwarves in Dwarf Fortress a sock is the same thing, as dwarven bread for the dwarves in Terry Pratchetts discworld

I'd assume you could just attack her with it. That'll sure give it to her. It'll even stay there if it gets stuck in her.
