Right. I'm producing resources like a mother bitch, currently im at 10/11/8/12/3. But i'm being attacked constantly, Right now i have a large fleet headed itsway towards me from a guy named TDOW from the alliance Arcadia... Its annoying I had the resources to build about 4 colony ships but i've been attacked constantly when I'm offline. Makes me wonder whether I should give my empire to someone to watch over?

You need to look at technologies and see what research you need for them. but once they're built they need 10k/20k/10k

What happens if you're attacked and have no defenses?

You lose lots and lots of resources, so you have to sit on your hands for a long while again to do anything.

If you have more than 3000 metal, the answer is one more turret than you have.

Fighters are not listed there. Does this mean heavy lasers can't hit light fighters?

Rapidfire means that if a <blank> destroys one of <turret>s, it gets to attack another of the same turret type.
That means a deathstar can (and will!) destroy 100 each round of combat(draw if one side hasn't won by the 6th, I think).

Anyway, I now have a colony ship, so as soon as we can figure out a place to settle in the name of all dwarves, I will send it there.

Oooh, the Arcadia alliance might have a NAP (non-agression pact) with us. One of them is even considering a merger...

Oh qwerty, It'd prolly be advisable to send the colony ships out asap, If you get attacked they'll die.

I sent diplomatic envoys to all my in-system neighbours last night.
There are now 2 "big bang" alliance planets/players here, they seem about our equals in size.

My envoys have not yet returned, but it is early days still.
In other news: I have SY and R&D, soon able to build some fun stuff.

I have no defenses whatsoever. Some guy with a tiny ship stole a couple K of each resource. I'm surprised nothing more serious has happened. Squashing a non-existent resistance is just dull?

I got one 'n' ... new? he's green, which indicates a weaker player iirc.

(n) means they have newbie protection, so you can't attack them for easy cash.

Only to players with more than X times your points, if you have at least 5000(I think it was 5 times?)
Points are thousands of resources currently invested(destroyed defenses are lost points, but still alive defenses count).
