Mike Mayday's Site Down?
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:13:01 pm »

Mike Mayday Graphics Edition Dwarf Fortress at:
http://mayday.w.staszic.waw.pl/%7Emayday/upload/df.htm

seems to have vanished, is he still working on this fabulous typeset for DF?  If not. . . how do I update the game without screwing with the graphics.  I've tried it before to only fail miserably.

I can tell you how to transfer the graphics properly to the next version, but It'll have to wait till I get back from school.

He's Polish? I guess that's why he hangs out at the Codex...
Can't wait this tileset to get finished, seems like the only alternative to the raw vanilla one to me.

When the next version of DF comes out I'm defenetly going to wait for the new mayday to come out because they're will be new things that it doesn't cover I'm sure.

How to update Mayday graphics to a new version:

Open the old version with the graphics in place

\Dwarf Fortress\raw\graphics\
Copy the contents of this folder to the new version's corresponding folder. Feel free to delete anything else present in it

\Dwarf Fortress\data\art\
Same as above

D:\Games\Dwarf Fortress\data\init\
Open init.txt and copy the chunk that starts with
[GRAPHICS:YES]
to your new installation

Tada. You might need to transfer some more init options such as grid size and stuff too but it should be easy from here on

I liked Mayday's old barrel tiles better. The new ones are fat

Yeah, I liked the older barrel tiles. How do we let Mike know to switch 'em back? I'd just cut and paste it, but he doesn't provide older versions on his site.

Also, anyone notice the doors are screwed up? The colors aren't going on the doors themselves, but the edges. Except a granite door I made, which is pitch black and as a result invisible except at the upper curves.

I did knowtice that door thing but I like the barrels as they are now, if the barrels your talking about are the ones in the pic for the graphic pack then I think the current ones look better with the pack as a whole.

There's more than simple init and art file changes to Mayday's pack, I think.

Look more closely at the art files. You see trees and turtles and stuff where there were no tree and turtle tiles before!

I'm pretty sure he actually changed the raw options so that some creatures/plants/whatevers use tiles which previously weren't used for anything. That's what my research suggests, anyway.

The problem is, how the hell do we know WHICH? I don't want to have to go through all the plants looking just so I can update the mayday pack to new versions manually.

Anyone else having problems with DFG12? I can't run fullscreen, and get a bunch of weird garbled crap, but when it does work the resolution's all screwed up.

Your screen must be set at 1280x1024 for it to work right.
