Precheck Vote Ideas
« on: September 14, 2008, 05:46:42 pm »

Before I'm gonna add 1 or 2 suggestion I want to make sure I did not just overlook it.

* Is there a masterlist of job preferences. That is a vertical list of all possible jobs, with the numbers next to it how many dwarves prefer this job. With [tab] or so, you can change mode, to highlight the dwarves wanting to do that particular job.

* Is there a possibility to see what a lever/pressure plate will do, other than trying out? I know I can try to add a task, and if I say don't find a particular bridge in that list, I know its linked to that list, but this tech also requires me to remember a lot about my fortress :)

No to both as far as I know. The first would be really useful, especially if when I tab over it brings me a list with a "zoom to" for the dwarves with that labor.

I added code to Dwarf Companion for myself which will go through all the current dwarves, and compile a tree of all the jobs, which you can then expand to see which dwarves have that job turned on. Meaning, I find it useful, and would love it in game.

Could use nicknames, I guess, but I think nicknames for dwarves could get out of hand (either 5 dwarves with the nick "Miner", or a dwarf with the nick "BrewerChefProcessorMason". :)

I like both ideas.

For the 1st, I simply make do with nicknames that give me a general sense of the Dwarf's main job, while still having some flavor.

For example, my Mining/Masonry dwarves all have stone related names. My Woodworking dwarves all have tree related names. My Fisherdwarves all have water related names. Things like that. It's not perfect, as I occasionally have dwarves who span multiple areas, but it lets me figure out who does what reasonably well.

I like the idea, but why don't you edit the suggestion and fix the title? You don't have to paste the link in the link field AND the title, the link field will suffice.
