[40d] Woodcutter gets stuck picking up modded axe

So I've got half of he civilization forge mod in my game, and the crucial parts (I think), involve a second axe added to the raws, a war axe.   This axe is able to chop down trees, which makes me happy.  But what also happened is when there were no more trees designated for cutting, the dwarf(who is nearly skill less, no boosted attributes) put the axe in the weapons stockpile, moved a space, then immediately tried to pick it back up (it was the only axe in the fortress).  And forever, again and again.  Forbidding and reclaiming the item did nothing.  Putting some more trees up for cutting made the dwarf pick up the axe, and proceed to cut down that tree.  A temporary work-around is to disable the woodcutting skill, but I'd rather not disarm my dwarf.  Heh, heh.

Same problem with humans modded to be [CIV_CONTROLLABLE] and great axes, along with other 2-handed weapons. I guess it has to do with the 2-handedness and trying to figure out how to use both hands at the same time.

It seems strange that it would work, except when he has no trees to cut.  It actually slipped my notice for some time, as he did cut down a fair number of trees.

Removing the axe from the stockpile options doesn't fix it either.

Go to Military->Weapons screen and change him to wield 2 weapons. This fixes the problem, he will just hold 1 axe in 2 hands.

I thought that just meant weapon and a spare.

It usually does, but 2-handers are special.
