Bookkeeper Precision

I'm curious as to what bookkeeper settings people use.  Is there any advantage to using settings lower than the maximum? (aside from having more time on the hands of one dwarf!)

I keep it at the lowest level I can, while still using the Stocks screen (which is VERY useful). Unfortunately, if I want the rocks to be counted, I'm soon forced to use the maximum precision.

early on i put it to mid when an office is first availible. later, i promote a new guy to the job and set it to high. when he skills up enough, i set it to highest and get a legendary clerk. this clerk is usualy a  female peasant (not a good soldier).

When I decide I need a clerk, I set it to highest setting immediately. When it reaches legendary, I give him a pick, chisel, or war hammer, boot him off somewhere, and give his chair to another migrant.

I tried leaving the precision low to avoid slowdown in the stocks menu if you accidentally select stone. It doesnt work though it still loads for ages even when it doesnt display anything. Sigh

My bookkeeper is usually also my mayor and fortress liason and trader, so I just set it to medium and it's precise enough for me. I don't need to know exactly how many of my 1000-odd plump helmets I have. Ballpark figure is fine.

The first 1-2 years I set himto lowest or, if need arises, to medium precision.
Aftrwards it is always highest precision (I need the accurate count of the stone types to decide which stones to use for which parts of my extensive epiterranean buildings ;) )

I use high. My bookkeeper usually does other stuff, such as trading, and if they're on highest, then they never have time to do anything else.

Yah, it sounds like minecraft with content, you have obviously missed the point, people dont like content, they like different coloured blocks.
Seems to work fine with my copy. As soon as I loaded the human caravan came by and the world burst into fire.

I pick a peasant out of the first wave, and set it to highest to make sure he never has to ever leave his office again.

I set it to highest. After they reach highest percentage complete, they actually have a lot of free time on their hands and can do other things.

I start with a bookkeeper/engraver, and set it to highest so s/he'll be legendary within the year. Also, I noticed eventually the dwarf will get bored and do other jobs available to it.

I just set it to high, or medium if nothing is unreadable.  By bookkeeper is usually also skilled at something else that I need done, being an Original Seven and all.

Normally, I make the most useless dwarf as my bookkeeper and set it to highest. That way it doesn't bug me whenever something isn't counted.

Same for me.
My book keeper usually gets talents in masonry, wood cutting and fishing upon embark, so that he can be useful in the beginning phase when there are only the original seven and book keeping isnīt needed yet.
