oh what to do with megabeasts
« on: September 12, 2008, 11:11:39 pm »

Well I just had my first megabeast (a titan) and caught her but now I wonder what to do. Right now I've got her in my zoo but I'm curious as to what everyone does with their megabeasts.

Five steps to megabeast fun.
1. Make an arena
2. Capture goblins in cages instead of using weapon traps
3. Throw the goblins into the arena in any way that you want. (with weapons, without weapons, in small groups, etc.)
4. Unleash the megabeast into the arena.
5. Sit back and watch the fun. ;D

Note: Make sure to create a way to either entrap the megabeast after the fight or to capture/kill any remaining goblins.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

How does building a cage with a prisoner inside affect a rooms value? I just got the baron and his crew and I'm considering putting the titan cage in one of their rooms.

I´m not sure about the room value,
but the value of the room for you will considerably rise.

Especially if you connect the cage to a lever to release the titan whenever she demands the wrong things from your dwarves ;D

You could use it as cat disposal. Dig a pit, dump the megabeast in it, and then dump in kittens as required. You can butcher the bits that fly up for minor amounts of meat and bone if you really want to.

Fortress defense of course. [I do not use moats / I try to use very few traps] However you gotta be careful with Dragons, they tend to fire up the surrounding, so always use them properly.  ;D

If I ever get a dragon (not sure how to check how many beasts are still alive without spending alot of time in the legends) I think there was a fortification thing where you chain dragon to the back of it and he'll flamebreath.

Or add the [PET_EXOTIC] tag to the megabeasts. That way you could always put it back in a cage. But note that this is only handy when it hasn't killed any of your Dwarves. Otherwise he'll rampage around in your fort murdering everything on it's way. This also goes for other animals, by the way.

Build his cage, build a lever, connect the two, build fireproof floodgate, unleash magma, open cage, burn titan.

But that's no fun. Instead, chain him up, and place him in a room with all Urist Mcimmigrants that you don't need.

And thus did the dream of dwarven antigravity fade away, not with a massive explosion or a flood of magma, but with a whimper.

I'm going to be depressed all day now.

Sell him to the elves.

Make sure the cage is defective.

well now I've got a male titan to go with my female titan. Can they mate without being tamed or would they beat on each other if I released them in a room?

They probably won't attack each other, but they probably also won't breed. Also, remember that everything in df breeds by spores so they don't even need to be in the same room, just outside of cages.

If you ever have a situation like that, try it out and tell us how it works out, FOR SCIENCE!
