The Orange Box
« on: September 12, 2008, 11:02:35 pm »

So I have finally worked up the funds to purchase a new game ($100 NZ), and I am seriously thinking of getting the Orange box (Halflife2 + both episodes+ portal + Team Fortress 2) with my hard earned cash. However, first I have a couple of questions and request.

Q1: Is the Orange Box as good as the reviews on Gamespot say it is. I do not trust gamespot as I have a feeling that the reviews aren't as independent as they say they are.
Q2: Will TF2 be completely playable on my piece of shit PC. It has XP sp2, a 256/128kbps internet connection, 768mb of RAM, an old Radeon 9600 pro (256mb version) and an AMD Athlon 2000+ (1.6Ghz) processor. I know it meets minimum requirements but that doesn't mean gameplay online won't be laggy.

And as for the request, will anyone be kind enough to send me a spare TF2 3 day demo thing. My friend told me that everyone who owns TF2 gets one to give to a friend (he already used his) and I was wondering if someone on this forum could spare a 3 day demo. I will pm you my email address when needed.
Edit] I just want the guest pass to see if it will work on my PC, I forgot to add this in.

This is a pathetic excuse for a new topic, so it can be a general Orange Box related discussion topic as well.

Q1. Yes, it is.

Q2. Don't expect anything better than low for graphics, and it could get a tad choppy in high action parts, but that should scrape across.

Sorry for the somewhat short answers, I have my guest pass if you want it.

A suggestion, don't play the spy or you WILL get hooked.
Playing the spy is like puffing a cigar, once you start you'll keep doing it,and it is bad for your health.Spy is very frustrating to play lately.

Why is the spy frustrating to play as? I have never played this game before but I have heard many good things about it. I can't wait to play it.

The spy is really cool, but these days people are extremely aware of spys and as one you'll run into alot of unfortunate coincidences that will get your guy fried.

Turn back while there is still hope!

Spy isn't that hard to play =] [Spyvoice]It just takes a little bit of skill....alittle bit of luck...and a little bit of...style...[/Spyvoice]. Its simple, if your trying to blend in look where you want to go, dont stop, and dont look at the enemy for more then a second. I've been an engie in the sewer in 2fort and had spys who try to make themselves seem real, mainly by standing over next to the health packs and looking straight at me... It just does not work. Always always always go for medics first unless the guy they are healing is destroying somthing vital or somthing of that nature. Dont be afraid to shoot at a cocky pyro runing at you from far away with his axe. Two or three good shots and he'll be down and pissed. Many many spys and other players treat the spy revolver like its a toy, this is a bad mistake on their part and can be used to your advantage. When runing away from some one try to surprise them, if you run around a corner, cloak, and run back out from the corner and wait till they pass. This almost always works unless your extreamly unlucky. Find a good luck charm and keep it next to your moniter  ;D Mines an ol' scope I took off a BB gun. Like I said, spying has alot to do with luck.

Another tip, while rounding corners dont hug the wall, its easier to not run into somthing thats coming around the wall if your farther away from the wall. This also opens the guy up for a nice strike about ...oh...4 or so seconds after he passes the invisible spy.

Good luck with that on maps like dustbowl and 2fort,those corners just don't give you room.

Speaking of guest passes,I've got one to,any takers?
