slow expansion
« on: September 12, 2008, 08:40:01 pm »

I did not find this when I searched, so here is my suggestion:

Have the dwarfs slowly expand outward, maybe after reaching a certain  population or as the dwarfs explore more. Or even by buying maps/gaining area knowledge from the neighboring tribes/groups of creatures, that can talk, in the area.

If this was all ready suggested then it is a good suggestion.  ;)

The problem is that Dwarves will only settle on mountain tiles with non-mountain areas in the local region. Thus only ranges with a lot of surface area will have dwarven expansions. Perhaps if they made the occasional non-mountain fortress, they would expand more. Then again, these are Dwarves. They are old, strong and stubborn. Not much to make a new town all willy-nilly.

Buck up friendo, we're all on the level here.
I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

I ment the player`s fortress, so you can start with like a small map and have the option to slowly expand outward(should probably have the choice, so not to kill FPS with a HUGE place...) so like if the dwarfs start out on a small forest area(like 2by2) you do not run out of room so fast, maybe even make a note of were each expansion was with a border or something. (so it would do something like: 2x2 "expand" 3x3 "expand" etc...)

Hillariously I would think more people would be for the ability to shrink the fortress as time goes on
