I'm just kind of interested in the demographic of dwarf fortress players.  In the past few days we've seen posts about parents encouraging very young people to play, there seems to be a pretty active teen and college-age crowd here, and I have an impression that there are a lot of us balancing the DF vs. career dilemma on a fairly regular basis.

(partly this is occasioned by a class I'm taking on the biology of aging . . . the quotation from the book is: . . . by "aging" we mean the process that gradually transforms healthy and vigorous adults into older adults with diminished ability to meet a wide range of physiological challenges and, concomitantly, increased susceptibility to multiple forms of illness, injury, and death . . . In this view, aging is occuring in 4-day-old worms, 3-year-old dogs, and 25-year-old people: Even if their performance on most age-sensitive tests is not yet seriously impaired, the amount of additional time that will elapse before functional decline has been shortened . . .)

For my part, I turn 25 in a couple of months :/

I am 22 and found out about Dwarf Fortress during my last year of college.

I found myself experimenting with it and thinking about it more than was healthy for the projects I was trying to get done for school.

I forget my age,(never celebrate my Birth), but I do know it is between fifteen, and maybe... lets say thirteen or something. :\

I'm wondering if DF is just a young man's game, of Internet Forumgoing as a whole skews to a younger sampling.  The Polling Effect in action.

I'm 21 myself, found DF last December, while still 20.

I think the first stage should have been more distinct - fourteen and under, then 15-17.  Because obviously 15 year olds can play DF, but I only know 1 13-year-old who plays.

I'm 23.  Assuming I die at the male average lifespan of 74, I have 51 more years for someone to invent immortality.  And DF v1.00.
